Dangerous Times
Good column out today at Legal Insurrection. Thoughtful and connects some dots.

Gathering Storms and Threats to Liberty

Quote:We’re living in a very dangerous time.

Several things are coming together that pose a serious threat to the liberty of anyone who is right-of-center.

While there are many factors at work, I’ve been focused in recent days on three: (1) Antifa becoming a part of the anti-Trump Resistance; (2) politically-motivated denial of access to the internet at the gatekeeper level; and (3) attempts to weaken free speech protections in the name of social justice.

I believe that the Professor is spot on. I wish more people knew of these items. Some might just say, yeah, that's politics. But these items are beyond politics - they concern your liberty.

RE: Dangerous Times
Did you notice how pretty much every mainstream fake news outlet covering the rally in Boston yesterday, referred to it as a "free speech" rally? Type Boston free speech rally into Google and scroll.

Very dangerous times indeed when you stand for something, and your political opponents just downright refuse to take you for your word, are willing to attribute their own motive to you, and are willing to get violent over it. Just like President Trump and how he's disavowed the KKK dozens if not hundreds of times. Doesn't matter, you are what we say you are.

"We say you're a Nazi, and what do you do to Nazis?"

It was like an article I linked in another thread. The media used to try to tell you what to think. Now they try to tell you that you can't believe what you hear with your own ears.

This is how the left moved me from "none of the above" to Trump. I never imagined myself voting for Trump until they shut down that Trump rally in the northeast. A mob shuts down a rally with 10,000 people wanting to hear Trump speak and being denied. That was when I first started considering whether I should vote for him. It was scary to see that in America.

Then they fire-bombed a NC GOP HQ. They threw bricks through windows in Indiana. They tried to hunt down the student who dared chalk "Trump 2016" on the Emory campus as if it were a hate crime. They fired a couple teachers in my county for supporting Trump's immigration policy on their private Facebook. They cut off funding for Peter Thiel, the gay CEO who nominated Trump at the GOP convention. Clinton's campaign hired people to incite violence at Trump rallies and their only concern seemed to be that it didn't always work. The mainstream media cheated for Hillary in debates and became a DNC propaganda machine 24/7.

As a Jewish friend of mine said, a lot of "brown-shirt" activities by the left.

Every time they compared Trump to Hitler, I was reminded which party truly had the SS working for them and which party had so many people, including a number of my friends, filled with irrational, obsessive hatred. It wasn't the Republicans.

I'm not even sure I could ever fire off all the rounds in my closet - and hope I never have to try - but there's still room for more in there so...

RE: Dangerous Times
President Trump is the true anti-facist. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017...ntifa.html

"...A single voice of sanity commented on the events.  On Saturday evening, President Donald Trump decried the hatred and violence on both sides.  Then the country went nuts.  Journalists and politicians expressed outrage that he hadn't called out the Nazis and the Klan by name and that he had blamed both sides.  They demanded retractions and apologies, and a few called on Trump to resign.  One Democratic Missouri state senator hoped for his assassination.
But Trump was right.  There were two sides in Charlottesville.  One side was a fringe group whose views haven't been taken seriously for at least 50 years and who don't have sufficient members to elect a dogcatcher.

The other side were the "aggressively aggrieved left."  They've been around for decades, and, like many shady movements, they frequently change their name.
In 2011, they called themselves "the 99%" when they occupied and trashed Zuccotti Park near Wall Street.
In 2013, they marched as "Black Lives Matter" and called for murder: "Whaddah we want?  Dead cops!  When do we want them?  Now!" and "Pigs in a blanket.  Fry 'em like bacon."  (The neo-Nazi chants in Charlottesville sound almost conciliatory in comparison.)  A rash of cop-killings followed, and many were directly linked to the cause of Black Lives Matter, whose leaders were invited to Obama's White House.
Today they call themselves the "Antifa [for anti-fascist] Movement," an irony that probably escapes them.  Their tactics of knocking heads, lighting fires, and breaking windows are exactly those of the Nazis and Fascists in the 1930s.  They call this violence "by any means necessary" and claim justification in order to prevent "hatred" – i.e., anything that offends Democrats' sensibilities, like speeches by Ann Coulter or Milo Yiannopoulos and statues of a long dead Democrats everywhere.
The real anti-fascist – and the only one, if recent rhetoric is a guide – is our president.  Only he acknowledged the hatred on both sides of the Charlottesville riot.  And only he had the courage to identify one of those sides as the "Alt-Left...."
