1. I'm sorta glad yet saddened that it didn't have this name when Miami played in it last season.
2. Calling it the Gasparilla Bowl doesn't even make sense, the holiday is late January in Tampa, not December in St. Pete. It'd be like hosting a St. Patty's Day Basketball Classic in Chicago, except it happens during February in the far northern suburbs.

P.S. Gasparilla in Tampa is a blast, highly recommend it if you haven't gone.

Maybe the field won't look like now. St. Petersburg has always had the most wretched looking playing field of all the bowls, if not all of major college football.

Hmmm, yeah....we have a bowl game sponsored by a lawn mower company, but played indoors on Fieldturf.

They do come with some great sponsor names for this bowl. At least the bowl continues to exist for the AAC with a partial tie in to the ACC in rotating years. If the kids get to play and the schools get paid it is still a win - win for everyone though - even the hotels, restaurants, and the local tourist association.

2018 is the last year for the ACC. I have a feeling this want be on the ACC bowl games in 2020-25.

Eh, USF St Pete is just a tiny branch college nearby, it wouldn't make much of a difference. If I had to guess the people running the bowl do a good job keeping costs down and raising money from a relatively low-profile game to keep them afloat; they may have some good business deals with local hotels and other entertainment companies that tie-in to normal December tourists just there for the beach.

IIRC this season they're moving the game from the day after Christmas to a few days before so that'll probably help attendance. Having the ACC and AAC as primary tie-ins, even if it doesn't play out that way most seasons, probably gives the backers some hope that they'll draw close to 30K like they did one or two games.

At least it's not dealing with questionable brands like magicJack or Bitcoin/BitPay any longer
