The St. Petersburg Bowl has been renamed the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, sources told me.

Guy hosting the AAC podcast had a good idea today. If you're going to rename it the "Gasparilla Bowl", then fine, but put the sponsor at the end if it's going to keep changing.

If I was creating a college football video game that wasn't licensed by the NCAA, this is the kind of fake bowl game name you'd come up with. Actually, no, if someone pitched the "Bad Boy Mowers - Gasparilla Bowl", they'd get thrown out of the brainstorming session.

A couple of points of reality here...

We need bowls. We need bowls that have a P5 tie in... This one does, at least partially, with the AAC.

Bowls need sponsors, sponsors who will pony up $$$.

No one wants to be the bowl eligible team who sits home right?

So these guys put up the money to make the bowl work. Sure at first glance it sounds a bit silly... but until we get anything better, I'm glad the bowl is making it work.
