Pluto TV
I kinda like it I have Playstation vue and an antenna .
I could see them adding more smaller conference channels.
Also those channels getting better .
The Big Sky channel just shows old games its the off season.
The should include the induvidual teams YouTube channels or the videos they post on them.
That would be a thousand percent better coverage for G5 and lower leagues.
Maybe not exposure but those fans will look for news from their team.
I read that ESPN3 doesn't pay MVFC teams anything just gives them exposure. For that added exposure they dictate kickoff times and days of the week sometimes.
Add MVFC ,SBC, Southern ,Southland and some others it could be a nice non cable sports package .
I also read Roku has made it easier to start a channel.

RE: Pluto TV
Love Pluto TV. Big Sky is going to show live games on Pluto.
They keep adding channels and have a basic cable channel setup.

RE: Pluto TV
They have some decent movies on the free on demand section.
How do they make money?
Is it so cheap to add channels that they don't have to make much? If so ten or more confetence channels could be on their in the near future.

They make money like OTA TV...advertisements.
They could be like Roku and split the ad money with the channel.

Their margins probably have a lower threshold to make a profit and being a private company don't have the needed pressure for bigger profits.
I have been watching these guys for 4 or years and they have developed very nicely.

The two things I watch on TV are sports and SciFI (not horror!). They don't seem to have much of either.

At some point they will move to a paid service. They have CBS news. I wonder if this is going to become CBS streaming service when it debuts next month??

RE: Pluto TV
CBS news already has a 24/7 streaming service for free. It has been successful so CBS is going to try and replicate it's model with sports. CBS seems to want to be the OTA of streaming. While CBS all access is paid, CBS still has their shows available next day online for free at CBS.com. With these new news and sports feed, it's very interesting to see CBS plot such a different course than all the others

RE: Pluto TV
By the way, the MW released the women's soccer and volleyball games that will be broadcasted on Stadium's OTA TV and digital platforms.

Interesting note from the release:
"Stadium is owned by a collection of industry leaders including Silver Chalice, Sinclair, MLBAM, the NHL, the PGA TOUR, and Time, Inc. and will launch later this Summer 2017. To learn more, visit: http://watchstadium.com/."

side note: Big Sky channel #2 is showing a live game of women's soccer: Neb-Omaha vs EWU.

FYI: Pluto TV has 5 million active users and growing (as of Oct 2016). Pretty sure that has grown a bit more over the past year and with the HGTV, Travel and Food network type channels that were added. And with the Big Sky conference channel added as well as Stadium that will be added, that growth should be very significant.

When you see it in print like that you realize just how small on line sports broadcasting footprint really is. Typically, if anyone were to suggest putting games on a small cable network with only 5 million subscribers they would be roundly pummeled.

Compare that with the 3 million subscribers of the combo of Sling, Vue and Direct TV Now.

The thing is the games are not necessarily exclusive to Pluto. The Big Sky schedule shows many Pluto games being available on local TV as well .

Also with Pluto, if you want to watch it you can. It's not look being on an obscure cable network that your local cable company won't add. Youre not going to have to switch to Directv by gametime on order to watch.

Those are also online players. My point is CBS-Sports is one of the weakest national cable sports platforms and it's got 55-60 million subscribers. There is nothing close to equivalency in these platforms---not yet at least.

This is the first year Pluto is doing sports, it is huge for the Big Sky. Pluto has the potential to become major player in the streaming business. They have to start somewhere, will be interesting to see what next few years bring.

So Houston @ UTSA is on this network? Is this the only way to watch the game? If there's alternatives to watching games then it may stay at 5 million. If it's the only way to watch the games it will grow....

No, it'll be on OTA TV, Stadium Roku channel and their website.

However, the Big Sky games are pretty much how to watch when outside the college footprint. Also, Pluto has growing regardless of sports channels but having them will grow faster especially if there are other conferences to follow.

Stadium is live on Pluto TV. Ch 207. So if you dont get the OTA station, you can view this way.

Showing the classic game between Boston and Cleveland in the game 5 of ALDS 1999
