I thought there was going to be a big announcement about a powerhouse school being scheduled. No offense to Liberty.

Liberty will probably be a decent opponent by then. No, not a P5 team, but not a push over either. They are investing tons in athletics over the last several years. The on campus athletic complex is very nice!

Bell made it seem like the new stadium will open in 2019 or 2020, both of which have openings for a "big game" if need be.

Under Armor should step up and help broker a good opponent to open the new stadium WHEN it is built.

Great Team to add to the Schedule, Check the Name. Liberty, We should play with (it) them every Year. Very Fitting Game for us and them.

I don't get why they are a fitting game for UAB. UAB is a school rooted in the pursuit of science and biology at its most basic level and Liberty is basically the opposite of that.

Hopefully they'll be a good football opponent but this does nothing for me at the end of the day.

I agree with this. Never really cared to play Liberty, but maybe we didn't have a lot of H&H options.

Any chance for Ga State to include other sports (MBB, WBB, etc)?

Attending a home game is not generally considered supporting the visiting team. I'd argue that by not going to that game you are doing more to support them.

You are correct you have every right not to support something you oppose. However buying any ticket contributes to the department revenue and LU gets a guarantee. If you go one game you're doing the same thing.

What am I missing?

Falwell U is pretty much the antithesis of everything UAB stands for: we are an institution of science and reason, and one committed to diversity. The first is a source of great pride for us, the second, just look at any #FreeUAB gathering and it was obvious that we're a Dr. Seuss rainbow of shapes, colors and sizes. We are the future. They cling to a past that never was.

I despise everything for which they stand. I am deeply disappointed in Fumbles for making this deal - and he's already working from a pretty low standard. This is not an institution with which I want UAB associated in any way, shape or form.

We're a consistent top 10 university in diversity. Liberty ranks #1,326. Here's the photo off their diversity page - they have to hold the one black chick in a headlock to keep her from escaping back to UVA:

All that said:

Fumbles has already struck, doing what he does best (that is, fumble). Boycotting season tickets over this will not change the contract, and will not change the money paid to Falwell U (the cash is going to come from somewhere, like those other home games if no one buys tix for the Liberty game).

I will buy my tickets, and I may choose to use the opportunity to vent my feelings regarding Falwell Jr and his sham "university."

It's a home and home so the only way you are supporting Liberty is going To the away game. What you do support by not buying a ticket is the The UA Trustees and Raymond Watts and playing into the narritive that they are already spreading in that ticket sales will go back to what they were after this year. I know that our attendance will be watched closely and heavily scrutinized over the next few years.

Meh, I'll see us play ODU. Not even the people who went to Liberty U like Liberty U.

Your post clearly shows your commitment to "diversity."

Glad to see us scheduling that far out. Liberty should be a good opponent.
