Inappropriate Hugh Freeze phone calls linked to multiple recruiting trips

Hugh Freeze resigned as Ole Miss football coach last month after phone records unveiled a call placed to an escort service in Tampa, Fla. But that’s not the only call uncovered — and flight records now indicate Freeze was in Tampa at the time the call was placed.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal’s Andrew Beaton, the plane that Freeze used to take a recruiting trip to Tampa touched down in the city just hours before the one-minute call, which had previously been classified as a potential misdial, was placed.

A few hours after the plane touched down at 5:30 p.m. in Tampa, his school phone registered a call to a number linked to a female escort service in that city, according to phone records reviewed by the Journal.
At the time of Freeze’s resignation, Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork described the call as a part of a pattern of inappropriate conduct from Freeze. But no one knew exactly what that meant at the time.

Bjork opened up to the Wall Street Journal, clearing up some of the vagueness from the initial press conference.

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork said in response to questions from the Journal about Freeze’s travel that the university’s investigation uncovered “calls of a similar nature” over the course of several years, often matching up with travel logs showing the coach’s use of the school plane. The school said it examined his travel logs from peak recruiting times — often November, December and January — when Freeze would travel out of state, using the school plane and other public resources.

“When we say pattern, we are describing other phone numbers that when you Google them pull up similar type websites, services, however you would describe them,” Bjork said. “We took action swiftly.”
Matt Luke, the former co-offensive coordinator at Ole Miss, will serve as interim head coach this season. The Rebels, who are still subject to an NCAA investigation, are ineligible for postseason play.

But their defense against all the allegations is how great their compliance department is. This was going on for several years and they couldn't find it. Yet a quick google search shows exactly what the numbers are?

Easy not to find it when you are not really looking for it. Ole Miss' strategy has been so flawed from the outset. This would have been over and done with years ago if the Rebs would have handled it correctly.

it tells you what the business is. in their case, it prolly listed similar escort service providers. they would have been able to see if the additional escort numbers listed had also been called.

Wait... I thought the number was a Detroit number?!!! And the escort agency was ran out of Florida. So, he dialed a FL number of an escort service ran out of Detroit!?!! 04-jawdrop

I will say what I told a friend, I bet it has FAR more to do with recruiting violations and illegal calls to recruits than it had to do with any "moral" failure. NOT that I believe he was a saint, I think this was totally NCAA related.

the more that comes out from this...means the NCAA is totally going to hit Ole Prius pretty hard...even though they had self imposed some penalties

I know Memphis has people that monitor every tweet, post and text so I would be absolutely shocked if they don't check phone records. At least they sure better be!!!
