Well, at least it makes more sense than tying us to a Bowl game in that stupid Frisco stadium that holds 18 people.

Thats the point and a serious problem... Attendance has been on a major drop...

Memphis 2014 63K
Hartford 2015 45K
Orlando 2016 38K
Hartford 2017 29K

With the addition of WSU and it being back in Orlando this year it will finally stop dropping but don't expect great numbers. Orlando is better than Hartford but still not central enough. Starting in 2019 when it comes back to Memphis we can get attendance high and keep it that way by keeping the tournament in another central location via Fort Worth. The atmosphere of the games will be greatly improved. Important outliers Connecticut and Cincinnati will bring a crowd wherever they go. Smart move.

I don't really care if it's well attended as long as Ft Worth/Dickies Arena gives us a big guarantee.

This. Better be a nice contract to lock up 3 years at an unproven location.

Agreed
Should've been no more than a 2 yr contract

Especially, that last yr., 2022,
W/ the same facility also hosting the NCAA 2nd/3rd rd tourney games that yr.
It could "easily' slice N2 attendance & tix sales
4 the AAC Tourney being held only a week B4 the NCAA event

iMHO IF u want good attendance #'s
@ minimum AAC Tourney needs 2 B held @
An AAC school's host arena
otherwise u'll continue 2 get sparse interest & crowds
@ "neutral' venues like Ft Worth.

Also think those 12th to 9th seed games should B held
early in the week @ the higher seeded team's home venue
Those games would draw much better @ home
than @ the tourney venue where no one goes
Plus I'd think it's easier 2 sell a 3 day tourney tix vs. a 4 day tourney tix

RE: 2020-2022 Conference Tourney
Its a great location, central to 3 schools (Tulsa, SMU, WSU) relatively close for 2 (Houston and Memphis).
I expect Memphis and WSU to be good and bring fans, Tulsa has lots of alumni in Dallas and usually shows up well there. I would imagine Houston does as well.

Its in a neutral city, big time conferences have their tournament in neutral locations has been an arguement on here.

Large metro to pull from (dfw area is 7 million or so) for casual fans. Actually what 30 mins or so from a home school to work as an attendance base. Kind of the best of we need it neutral but we need a home team.

DFW should have plenty to do, so even a team bowing out early will have things for fans to enjoy and probably still attend some games.

Easy travel for everyone in the conference as a major airport hub.

Not a forever contract but long enough to establish the habit of it being there.

It checks off most the boxes this board thought were important.

Things it is not :
In the north east (sorry uconn), the big east is dead this conference is much more midwest oriented.

A geographical outlier, its pretty central to 6 schools.

Disney world/new orleans tourist destination, DFW is solid but not a huge tourist attraction, which I think was too heavily weighted by some.

Prediction: it will be the highest attended AAC tournament.

Houston is closer than Tulsa and 2 hours closer than Wichita.

True, but houston is just now building their program back, they should be good but I'm still iffy on their fan suppprt by then.

I agree they are less likely to bring large numbers of fans in the near-term. But they should certainly be grouped 'central' if WSU and Tulsa are.

LOL. Tulsa averages under 4,000 per home game. What makes you think they will have any impact on conference tournament attendance in Fort Worth?

I really like this location. FW is a fun city and the weather won't be miserable. I like Dallas better, but there is plenty to do in fort worth and we should get a good deal from having the tourney there. Should have solid attendance. Hartford was a graveyard last year (outside of the one UConn game vs. Cincy).

I agree people talk crap about ECU, but we still average more in basketball as a sorry program, than some of the so called good programs.

Temple and Tulsa have poor attendance in basketball on what they should be averaging. Same goes for Houston. Tulane is a joke (they would be better off busing students in as I think I have seen maybe 4 students at their games)

As much as ECU gets sh!t here, your fans show up regardless of the product on the field/court. Clearly this is a big reason as to why the AAC offered an all-sports invite. If ECU could get a real basketball coach and be competitive, they'd probably have one of the highest attendances in the conference.
