So the Cal AD job is opening up again. Apparently, the guy who beat out Bowen for the job 2 years ago was a disaster, and won't seek a renewal of his contract, which expires next May.

"Mike Williams . . . informed Chancellor Carol Christ on Tuesday that he will not seek an extension of his contract. Williams . . . served as interim Cal AD for the first 10 months of his tenure before being named the school's full time Director of Athletics in May 2015."

"According to industry sources, Tom Bowen is a finalist for the Athletic Director job at the University of California and could be named to the position soon. The Cal search committee has said they would make a decision by late April. The other finalist is interim AD Michael Williams, who has said he wants the job."

Bowen worked most of his career in the Bay Area, wonder if he will show interest again?

Mark Alnutt seems like he's ready for the job IMHO.

Wren Baker just finished his 1st year as North Texas' AD, he would surely have some supporters too.

He was the associate AD in 2000-2002 at Cal. It would be a good job for him. I think he's done an fantastic job at Memphis, but Cal is a great opportunity for sure.

He was the associate AD in 2000-2002 at Cal. It would be a good job for him. I think he's done an fantastic job at Memphis, but Cal is a great opportunity for sure.

But Cal seems like a mess.

Which makes Bowen an even more attractive candidate. No matter how bad it is, it sure isn't RC level messy.

If Bowen was afraid of a mess he would never make a good AD.

I hope he retires here, but if he leaves we will hire another good AD. The days of lil ol Memphis are over.
