Excitement in the program
I am very stoked about this team. It is exciting to have a new coach who everyone seems to like a lot, and everyone is behind 100%. There is tremendous optimism for success, and even though we have a new QB and receivers, I feel good about the abilities of the guys who will be stepping up to fill those spots. And i think this team has great leadership. Say what you want about Fleck, the kids he left behind seem to have solid character, as well as talent.
I know that after a couple games we could be all scratching our heads, or tormented with frustration, as I have been a Bronco for a long time, and I certainly dont expect the same season we had last year. But this could be a very fun year, and I cant wait for it to start. We just cant be predictable on offense, and should be aggressive on D.

RE: Excitement in the program
Of course exciting. Maybe that shade of exciting that includes terror.
Everything this year will have a catch. You want to be unpredictable, but you're not sure the youngster can execute a wide range of options. Versus you can stick with 5 or 6 basic plays for the newbys while you have some cool stuff in your pocket where the vets can do advanced reads. You can pass when they expect run and run when they expect pass. That was a basic Cubit approach that Lester is very familiar with. On the other hand you can do the standard thing and run with our excellent backs and line, then let boy wonder have at shot at an easy 3rd down play?
Do you try to win at USC or do are you satisfied with practicing the basics in a high level game setting and learn to be at least acceptable? Would we rather see game 1 as a learning experience? Or do we beat ourselves to a pulp trying to prove something?
I'm not sure how much excitement my beating heart can take looking forward to the start of competition.

I'll be satisfied with a well executed game plan and a healthy team coming out of SoCal. If the USC faithful come out of the game with some doubts about their team then we will accomplished something. Can't realistically expect a W. hope for a W but I'd be happy with our O line and RBs busting up their interior D.

Do we try to win at USC?!? Of course we try to win at USC! We try to win every game on our schedule. They strap 'em up and bleed just like we do. An excellent opponent, but not invincible and they have flaws. Geesh. With that said, it's gonna be hot weather and physical and we will need to get a lot of looks out of a lot people to stay in it and not get smashed in the fourth quarter.

I don't think you gain anything from the experience of playing to do anything other than winning, and we are just as likely to get injuries regardless of the strategy. Moreover, maintenance of a "champion" disposition is important, and I guarantee you that our players justifiably believe they can win that game. Coaches just can't game plan the same as if it was Kent State we are playing. We need to take a calculated risk here and there.
I must say that it is refreshing though that everyone on this board, and likely bronco faithful who don't post, are all on the same page and optimistic about the football team. Fun stuff. Just need to win now. Let's play to win each game by 30 points.

I wasn't worried until talking to a fellow fan tonight. He pointed out that Lester's plans to run an uptempo offensive scheme could revert to a Cubit-style offense, gassing our defense.
Our defense and running game should be our strengths this year. Please don't screw it up!!

Up tempo doesn't mean quick strike. Cubit's offenses were more vertical quick strike based... long ball TD's and such. Sure that may have existed within an up tempo but I sense our up tempo will lean more on trench warefare.... quick back to the line and a dose of Jarvion up the gut for an easy 3yd first down conversion. Sure if you get a safety napping I say you torch the kid but let's not start comparing this offense to a "Cubit" style offense until we actually see what Lester and His Staff has actually put together.
Let's also ease up on the Cubit comparisons as a totally bad situation... the only thing I want to make sure we keep as much in difference to those years is the fantastic culture and Championship attitude that was devoid under Coach C. As an X's and O's guy I don't think Cubit was all that bad...

Running the ball has so many benefits.

I honestly bought Lester was smarter than fleck now there's an article that he's considering using Phillips in some offensive wrinkles. The man is a specialist in 2/3 phases. He needs to breathe and concentrate on those 2 phases.

I was wondering the same a few weeks ago. If the WRs struggle why not let him go full Charles Woodson. Get the ball in the hands of your best player on the field.

RE: Excitement in the program
Until the season starts everything the coaches say about game planning can be taken with a grain of salt. Lets not get on Lester about saying he is going to run a million plays or even if he says we have some pass packages with chukes split out wide. Simply put they are not going to tell USC our gameplan before the game.

I have no idea what to expect. I'm buying my ticket and taking the ride with Lester and co. though. I respect the way he has come in here and the tone he has taken with the guys and the community. No doubt he cares deeply about this program in a way no other coach could. Can't wait to see what it looks like on the field.
