I agree 100%. I no longer try and get drunk but rather maintain a mild buzz.

My boss has a cabinet behind his desk stocked rather nicely. Comes in handy when working weekends. I've keep a little on hand most times too. Cooler of beer in the truck in the summer, Evan Williams and coke in the fall and winter.

Alcohol is just like anything else. All in moderation and always know your limits. I've had alcoholics in my family that let it ruin their lives, and others who drink like a fish and are in total control. I think a lot comes down to how it's used and how people handle stress. You should never like yourself drunk more than you like yourself sober.

RE: 1 in 8 americans now have an alcohol problem
This past Saturday I got drunk for the first time in a while.

Rode with a couple guys from the hunt club to scope things out. We checked cameras & stands and cleaned up the camper and had a couple beers. That's the good thing about riding with a tee-totaler.

Got home mid-afternoon and the wife had noticed the mailbox post was wobbly so went to fix it only to find the previous homeowner had the same problem before we bought the house because the 4x4 had rotted away so he drove two short 2x4s in the ground and scabbed it together and jury rig had rotted away. I knew I had a piece of 4x4 left over from building a deer stand that would work for the post and I had enough lumber to build the arm and brace so I set out fixing that. While I was out front doing that my neighbor came home and came over to watch me work. He's good for that....but at least most of the time when he does he brings beer so we put up a mailbox and drank beer. Then he mentioned he had a problem with one of his gates so I offered to help him with it and we we fixed that and drank more beer. About the time we finished up and I went inside my wife says my cousin and her husband called and wanted to go get Mexican for supper so we went to our favorite spot and I drank a few grande Dos Equis. We finished up there and they wanted to check out the new craft beer joint down the street so we went. I knew I was in trouble when the first thing I saw on the board was Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan on draft. Yeah...03-drunk

I've noticed, however, that as long as I drink good beer the hangover is pretty mild. If I had pounded cheap crap like I did Saturday I'd still be feeling it today.

I stopped there and could only think, "YEA KAP"

if I had to spend every waking sober, you'd hate me more than most 03-wink

04-cheers to that sentiment....

edit: to be clear....the wobbly was "you"....and the milk/mailman wasn't an option 03-wink

Have to hydrate adequately to prevent significant hangovers. A glass of water per beer/shot/wine glass usually lessens that hammer blow the next morning. Also have to consider the "1 per hour" rate of metabolism when the hour grows late. (ie. Don't finish the night with that pint bottle of the strong stuff when you know you won't be sleeping in the next morning.) I've found that if you really go at it the night before, especially if you don't hydrate to compensate, you will feel kinda nauseous and out of it most of the following day

Blue Mountain Barrel House - Spooky is perfect for the fall. One pint bottle is "lights out, sweet dreams" caliber stuff. Barrel-aged for that rye spice/bourbon sweetness note, on top of the base imperial stout brewed with pumpkin and cocoa nibs. Fairly smooth, not a whole lot of lingering bitterness. Not as sweet as it sounds, fairly balanced.
