I believe his original school (Loyola MD) had their coach resign in March (Flowers signed his Letter of Intent in November). I'm not up on the rules, but that seems like a legit reason to be let out of a LOI.

ODU removed the restrictions on Michael Hueitt's transfer destinations to only VCU. JMU W&M and Richmond are open now. He's supposed to visit two other CAA schools COC and Towson. Hueitt would be a red shirt Freshman this year. Real good 3 point shooter.

Prince Oduro the freshman transfer big from Siena is hearing from Illinois State, Dayton, Toledo, Northeastern, Mississippi state, USF, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, Hofstra, Delaware.

Not sure this team needs a redshirt transfer but based on who else is on the board right now for the right guy I think it would be ok.

Also a grad transfer to keep an eye on: Allante Holston from North Texas. Started this year as a 6'7" SF. Really known for defense. From the DMV and used to play AAU ball with Develle Phillips.

Welcome Devon!

Not getting Virginia recruits is something I felt was a shortcoming of the Brady staff. Rowe is doing a good job turning that part of recruiting around. JMU recruits Virginia well in every other sport so basketball recruiting should be no different.

Yep. And, I love how some worry warts on this board immediately started creating fantasies about how Matt Lewis was going to transfer out of JMU once the season ended, yet here he is helping Coach Rowe and staff sell the program to recruits...and, apparently successfully too. Nice!

As stated multiple times this past season, this set of 5 rising sophs are very tight and they love Coach Rowe. Good times are on the horizon.

Agree about being able to recruit in Virginia. There is a lot of talent in all sports in Virginia and it seemed odd to just not be active recruiting in VA. Glad to be back to going after in-state kids.

Now we just need Rowe to coach this team up and turn these recruiting victories into CAA wins and tournament victories.

Last season our defense was solid. Rowe needs to figure out how to let these athletes play together on offense with screens, motion, and ball spacing and less isolation plays with guys having to get their own shot.

Yep. I think he has much better depth and talent with these incoming freshmen. The best part in Year 3 is that he doesn't have to rely so heavily on these frosh. This past year, freshmen accounted for 45% of the total minutes across the entire season - and, 50% for the CAA portion of the schedule - with some moments late in the season where we had 4 freshmen on the floor for extended minutes. Bringing these incoming guys off the bench and sort of "easing" them more into game play should benefit everybody.

Freshmen become sophs and that's a positive. I look forward to seeing development in these rising sophs as well. Wilson should be able to get a lot done in the S&C area. Jacobs should be working on his outside shot and being stronger in post moves (also S&C work). Same for Jones. All of these young guys should (stressing "should") get better defensively now that they know how talented opposing guys are at this level.

I'm sure Rowe fully gets it that his honeymoon is over and it is put up or shut up time as far as W's & L's go. An upgrade in athleticism should make for good scrimmages and practices. I expect Parker and Hicklin to immediately make guys like Lewis and Banks even better.

Really solid. Flowers was first team VISAA this year. There are some pretty strong players surrounding him on the first team:
http://www.visaa.org/wp-content/uploads/...s-2018.pdf

Big pick up by Lou late in the recruiting season. dont know the kid, but having graduated from the Potomac School, he will be academically fit for JMU. That is an elite private school in NOVA. Lets hope he can ball.

Things looking up for Lou and the Dukes. If we have a second strong class, we will be in good shape.

others who were first team along with Flowers

Brandon Slater - committed to Villanova
Xavier Johnson - committed to Nebraska before re-opening recruiting
Bacot - offers from UNC, Duke and G'Town
Roach - offers from Md, Villanova, Miami

that's pretty good company. April showers bring Devon Flowers?

Welcome aboard Devon.

odu looks to have done well with two top 20 recruits.

interestingly, urbach shows up as 34th on the list. must not have consulted dukester

First off, let me say how pleased I was w/ last years recruiting class. I want Lou to succeed and am still optimistic. That said, I would like to soon start seeing us get the 14th ranked player in the state. I'm hoping that an improved record this coming season and the new arena will help in future classes. If ODU can land these guys playing in C-USA, we should be getting our share too.

To put it in perspective, the 5 guys who've committed that are above ODU's top in state recruit are
(were) going to Nebraska, Baylor, Penn St, Villanova and Florida. If we can poach a player of that caliber, I believe we'll see improvement.

The 5 guys above our current top VA recruit are going to Radford, Norfolk St, Belmont Abbey, Wagner and Stony Brook. Can we rely on players of the talent level of the above schools and expect to improve? I'm not so sure.

I realize rankings are not infallible. But you can see where I'm going with this. Sure, there are always guys who fly under the radar. But you can't have a whole recruiting class of them.

I looked at the Washington Post's All Met ranking and the Mason recruit made first team, as did I believe the ODU recruit. Flowers was honorable mention, among a ton of other guys. Urbach wasn't on there at all, as I recall.

Agree with you. Imagine how good Rowe's recruiting can be with a winning environment, a stimulated fan base (read: more than 25% full home arena), and an arena that isn't borderline embarrassing. Winning will hopefully bring the fans - especially needed are the students. The arena with improved facilities (practice, locker room, etc.) is on the way but still only something to point to. He's doing pretty good in the recruiting department considering everything that is working against him...hopefully, he will turn those around to positives. For when he does, I think your desires are much more likely in terms of being achievable on an annual basis.

I would rather Rowe keep recruiting useful players in VA, even if the studs come from out of state. Exclusively mining Ohio & Florida might help short-term, but gotta have VA kids on the roster for long-term program health.

The threat of Lewis leaving was real. He was recruited hard and his parents were pushing him to take a better opportunity. The fact that he stayed, was a sigh of relief and a testimony to Lou. It wasn’t worry warts. The administration at JMU was holding their breath.

If you say so. Btw, I have a RA nodule that has popped up on my ring finger. Do you mind worrying over that for me?

All I will say is if the Administration is worrying about it, then I am going to worry about it. It was all that was talked about by them at the CAA tournament. Did you go?

No. Maybe the Administration can worry about my finger. This nodule is probably Alger and Bourne's fault anyway.
