2011 Hawaii Bowl
Because it's the offseason and there's nothing else to discuss.

Did anyone ever get down to the reason of why we chose to play halfway across the world against a 7-5 Nevada over playing a ranked Penn State on New Year's Day in DFW? I know this has been hashed out so many times and tons of theories have been thrown out but I'm curious if anyone on here actually knows what happened.

The night of the Hawaii bowl decision was probably the biggest meltdown I've ever seen on any USM board. Even better than the UAB game meltdown.

...yes, I spoke to Larry not long ago about this and he gave me his reasoning on it....I will not post it on the board because some of these people do not deserve nor can they handle the truth about it....but as I like you beagle, if you would like to know the reason and promise not to share it with "these people" I will tell you.

Larry called me last night. We put Monken on a third line and shot the **** for an hour. Larry told us that he wanted to get to NC as soon as possible (and NC wanted him there asap) to start the new gig but he didn't want to leave the team / fans / AD hanging out to dry without finishing the season (bowl game) out. so he chose the Hawaii bowl bc it was played before the "Dallas" bowl. I wont tell yall what Monken told me about his departure.

RE: 2011 Hawaii Bowl
I always thought a big part of it was that G wanted a winnable bowl game so we could end 12-2 and be assured a spot in the final top 25 poll. Even then, we played pretty poorly and nearly lost to UNR.

Believe we would have beaten Penn State easily. They were just coming off the Sandusky thing and obviously weren't totally focused on football. UH ended up beating them 30-14.

Eaglepussy still hasn't figured things out, but his tail has to be getting sore. Between Trump and that monkey he should be getting awful frustrated.

...ok, I'll tell ya what it was..The Sandusky thing was the main reason...Larry didn't want to play them because the Media circus surrounding that crap was going to be goin on all week and he just didn't want to be a part of that stuff...Luckily for the first time ever we had a choice...and the other option was Freaking Hawaii...

...if I had the choice of going to cold and wet Dallas, Texas and having to deal with that sick pedophile crap or going to Hawaii with Sunshine, bikini babes, and pineapple daiquiris on da beach, well, the choice is an obvious one...especially for a 20 year old kid.....A bowl game is a reward for the players to go somewhere nice for a week and have fun....Every player I've spoken to about that have no regrets whatsoever.

some people didn't like it....well tough titties. A bowl isn't for you..it's for the players.

RE: 2011 Hawaii Bowl
Was at a Bible Study with AD when he got the call from Fedora to talk about the decision. Austin explained why him and all the players were frustrated that we weren't playing in Dallas, but the choice had already been made. Fedora apparently thought, "These guys had an amazing year and most of them will never get the chance to go to Hawaii. Let's give them a free trip they can enjoy." Didn't take into account Seniors' parents who couldn't go or the fact that football players would rather play better teams than just go to a location.

On the flipside, most players I know are fine with decision now. They enjoyed the trip and, as Fedora assumed, most aren't ever going to get back to Hawaii, so going once was a great experience. That doesn't mean they wouldn't have preferred Dallas, but it is what it is now. There wasn't some "let's ruin USM" mentality going on. Just a coach trying to give a special reward to players and screwing up by not asking anyone first.

Fedora wanted to take the earlier game to get out of here since we had already been a$$ raped by Liberty Bowl. That was 90% of it. The other 10% was to reward players with a Hawaii trip. Players melted down at first but got over it. Fans didn't.

what I found strangest was we retained him through the bowl game.....that's very unusual when he had already accepted the UNCheater position.....

and what was the end result due to not hiring from the 'full body of available coaches' due to that move????????????????????

fk'n E12L......that's the one that was truly the worst of all that bs....

what a huge CF of decision making happened in such a short period of time....

The entire outlook on the program went from euphoric when the plane landed to a full parking lot of cheering fans after the Ewwston a** whipping to complete despair after the bowl decision debacle. A roller coaster ride of epic proportions.
