A dedicated thread to the topic

This game should be the biggest test. The opponent features grown men with professional experience. Let's hope for continued chemistry growth and health.

RE: Jamaica Trip
Will be interested to see if Milon is healthy enough to play or if they rest him as a precaution.

Hopefully Rowley and Matt are back to full speed soon.

Jamaica Trip
As a side bit of info on other CAA summer trips, Towson beat seven time Canadian national champ, Carleton University, on Monday, 76-64, in the Can-Am Shootout in Ottawa. Of note, because Carleton turned around last night and beat Alabama, 84-71.
Northeastern plays Carleton in Ottawa on the 28th. JMU will play Carleton in the Paradise Jam Summer Tour next week in the USVI. Provides a little early reference, despite being a long way to go come conference play.

"Another fast start as W&M hit its first 6 shots from the floor and lead 23-10 at the end of the 1st. Cohn lead the way with 6 pts & 3 ast."

"The Tribe uses an 18-2 run to take as much as a 22-point lead, but the 79ers put together a 12-0 spurt to close to 34-24 at the half."

"Cohn leading W&M with 10 points, while Justin Pierce is chasing another double-double with 5 points and 8 rebounds. Burchfield also has 5."

Hope this isn't going to be a trend for Pierce at the FT line. Or Knight for that matter.

RE: Jamaica Trip
Players have started to develop a bit of identity this trip. Both Cohn and Burchfield are much more aggressive offensively. Pierce has been an absolute monster on the boards. Once again Jihar Williams is deadly from 3. I'm not sure what Nathan Knight is doing (2fgs - 1 3ptr.) Good rebounding from Knight, Harrison, & Pierce. Good 3 point %. Awful free throw shooting (50%)

26.8% shooting for the Jamaica team. Yikes.

I would like to think that the W&M defense was the result on that, but I am more inclined to believe they have no shooters

RE: Jamaica Trip
It appears that both teams played tough free throw defense.

41.2% 2 point shooting for the Tribe, 44% 3 point shooting and 50% free throw % is an interesting mix.

RE: Jamaica Trip
Assist to TO ratio nothing to write home about. Most of that was Burchfield (1 to 6).

Trying to read a game from a box score is like determining the leadership structure for the USSR from where everyone is standing at the podium in Red Square on May Day.

(I may have dated myself there.)

Pass the Kool Aid.

No Rowley. No Milon. Pierce looks like a player.

Put me down for - this is going to be a very interesting team to watch develop, and could be very dangerous come March!

Bartender! More Kool Aid! Drinks on the house!

RE: Jamaica Trip
It will be interesting going into the season if the solid rebounding continues. Shooting will not be an issue. If this turns into a decent defensive rebounding team, I may have to pour myself a glass as well.

Tribe Vibe!!

The kool aid will be gulped when:
1) same team shows up on the road as at home, and
2) first time they get hit in the mouth, they hit back harder, and rinse and repeat

Think what we know of the OOC schedule, so far, is that it is set up favorably for this young team's confidence and development.

This trip was important. Thanks again to MrsGotVibe for leading the way!

RE: Jamaica Trip
No pleasing some of you. We beat a squad of professional players who played real college ball, our young guys look great, and the guys seem to have played well together en route to a 3-0 record on a walnut court with fold out baskets.

I'm pleased with our team and hope this experience--brought to them by a generous fanbase--has served them well. Let's just hope Glover learns how to swim by the start of league play.

BTW, I thought the tall fella in the red shorts and white tee shirt in the clinic pics looked like Seton Hall signee, Romaro Gill. If not, I hope we planted seeds for his future college destination!

RE: Jamaica Trip
Trying to infer more info about the rotation:

Cohn and Loewe played exactly 40 minutes between them. That's the point guard spot.
Knight and Harrision played exactly 40 minutes between them. That's the center spot.

IF we get that kind of production out of two players who have been with the program for only weeks ...

Milon would be the starting off guard and Burchfield would back him up.

Rowley would start at the other forward spot and Tot(!) would be the first forward off the bench.

Williams looks like he will be in the rotation as well probably as a 2-3 swing player.

Just postulating ...

RE: Jamaica Trip
Knight averaged 9.3 ppg 8 rpg on 10 of 20 FG's (50%)
Pierce averaged 9.7 ppg 12.3 rpg on 13 of 24 FG's (54%)
Cohn 14.3 ppg 8 assists per game on 15 of 33 FG's (45%)
Burch 14.3 ppg on 17 of 33 FG's (52%) 8 of 20 from 3 (40%)
Those are impressive numbers. Tot and Williams also played very well on the trip. This will be a fun team to watch with healthy Rowley and Milon. It'll be interesting to see who starts.
