You'd think there would be less shaft and more balls coming from a player at Ball State.

RE: EMU Football Poster - What were they thinking?
"Eastern Michigan faculty and students call for drop of D1 football"

Quote:“Culturally and geographically, EMU football will simply never succeed from an attendance and financial standpoint,” faculty member Howard Bunsis said to the Board of Regents on Friday. “It is a losing proposition – always has been, and always will be. We hardly raise any money for football, and our attendance is the lowest in the country. Some of you believe that we are close to succeeding, if we just throw more money at the situation. This proposition is insane.”

Dear toddjnsn,
Please stop bringing articles that are over a year old, and have no basis of fact. If, you have any knowledge of what Eastern is doing for its football and other athletic programs, you should be aware of the new facility that is going to be built at the northern end of Rynearson Stadium. Both the president and the board of regents have affirmed their commitment to Division One status and remaining in the MAC.
It seems to me that you just want to discredit Eastern every chance you can. Take a deep breath.

So they're getting rid of the inflato dome?

Throwing some dirt and grass on the track?

Covering more seats the signage?

The best part about watching an EMU game is kids get to relive what watching black and white TV was like.

RE: EMU Football Poster - What were they thinking?
Dear Kenbar,

You have a point it being an older article, but it was just recently re-posted on Yahoo Headlines, which brings up the question as if it's still lingering. I should have noted that this as a disclaimer in the post. My aim isn't to discredit EMU -- it's calling into question what the winning season last year, and possibly bowl-bound this year will do, with all the money thrown into things (and if it's worth it). I'd rather not see EMU go -- I'd rather see EMU get some fan base and not be seen/felt from the outside as a shadow of AA. But just because there was a huge call to drop the football program in last year's off-season, with all the spending now -- it's still a concern.

If EMU were to surprise many and go 8-4 this year, it wouldn't shock me if their HC went somewhere else. After all, it's normal if a MAC team gets 8W for 3 years straight gets picked up by a P5 bottom-feeder, or high-end G5 where the MAC team's budget's low (higher salary available). IMO, getting EMU to a bowl 2x in a row? And getting 8W one of those years? OMG. Should get national coach of the year, IMO! :)

Huge call? It was really one overly vocal professor that recruited a few other bleeding hearts to join his Brigade. He also made friends with some sap from the Detroit Free press so that he could spew his crap and stir everything up. He had his 15 minutes of fame and I, like many others, think he should be fired. Anyone who backstabs their employer like that should be.

I'm glad that WMU is thinking about EMU Football. We're going to be successful this season and should compete in every game.

Let's see who wins the MAC West? This season should be exciting and interesting with the winner not determined until the last week.

Keep fighting the good fight. "Power to the football people".

I hope EMU keeps football. The problem really is the attendance thing, which would change somewhat if EMU became a mid-major power, but being in the shadow of UM is always going to be a problem with football.

RE: EMU Football Poster - What were they thinking?
One of Eastern's biggest problems is that it's largely a commuter school.

Students aren't on campus on Saturdays, they don't go to the games.

They don't go the games when they're students, they don't go when they're alumni.

And how is attendance really a problem? Even if a MAC School sold out every home game it would only be about a $1.5 million bump in revenue. Not that much when an athletic budget is around 30 million.

Funny that so many Western and Central folks think their students and alums are so loyal. The reality is that most of their alums I know are Walmart Wolverines. That sucks but it is what it is.

All kids want to play in front of a sold out stadium. Very few schools can provide that; however, at EMU the emptiness of the stadium on a game day is actually hard to watch. That ain't good for recruiting. It's also not good for the spirit of the ball team.

I'll take the WMU turnout at the Cotton Bowl last year as a pretty good representation of the loyalty of WMU alumni and fans.

RE: EMU Football Poster - What were they thinking?
Dear brovol,
Eastern fans are coming back. The stadium is not as empty as it was a few years ago. So we are making progress. As far as sold out stadiums for MAC football, as you said it doesn't happen that often. In fact, for all of the MAC schools, the number of sold out stadiums per year is less than one per school. The MAC attendance will continue to suffer because of our games played Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights late in the year. The WoodenNickle is correct about many MAC graduates.
