The East seems to be a battle between MTSU and WKU.

The West has three legit contenders.

What are you predicted standings?

Um... What? The East is by far the more wide open division. WKU, MTSU, ODU all legit contenders with Marshall, FAU, and FIU as possible dark horses. The west meanwhile is Tech, maybe UTSA with Southern Miss as a dark horse.

West
1. La Tech 10-2 (7-1)
Wins: NSU, Miss St, USA, UAB, Southern Miss, Rice, UNT, FAU, UTEP, UTSA
Losses: WKU, S Carolina

2. UTSA 8-4 (6-2)
Wins: Southern, Texas State, Southern Miss, UNT, Rice, UTEP, UAB, Marshall
Losses: Houston, Baylor, FIU, La Tech

3. Southern Miss 8-4 (6-2)
Wins: Southern, ULM, UNT, UTEP, UAB, Rice, Charlotte, Marshall

RE: 2017 CUSA Football Predictions
The winner of the east will be MT or Western, with a puncher's chance to ODU.

I honestly believe Richie James is the single best player in this conference and Brent Stockstill joins him in the five or so best players in this conference. With even moderate defensive improvement under new DC Scott Shafer, I believe we win the division.

You might as well predict us to go 0-12. We have beat NMSU 8 times in a row so eventually all good things have to come to an end. We haven't beat a P5 team in over 50 years so scratch that W also. If your prediction of beating Arizona turns into a reality I can guarantee you this team will finish with a winning record.

RE: 2017 CUSA Football Predictions
WKU still the flagship for the 3rd year in a row. Barring injuries or off-field drama they should win the championship and have a great shot to be 13-0 when the bowl matchups are decided.

UAB will be the most improved from the beginning of the season to the end. I believe the Blazers will play much worse-than-expected in 1 or 2 games in September, but then much better-than-expected in November. Except for @Florida, I really don't see any other game on the schedule as "unwinnable". Overall, probably 3-9 or maybe 4-8.

I like your prediction, but FIU? I don't think UTSA loses to them. I'm thinking UTSA and Latech will go neck and neck with each other with the last game deciding who wins the West. Here hoping Latechs kryptonite southern miss, takes out Latech mid season so UTSA has some breathing room.

RE: 2017 CUSA Football Predictions
To my thinking, there are only three true contenders for the West title, and I have to agree with most prognosticators that LA Tech is the team to beat. Where I differ from most is that I believe Tech's strongest competition will come from Southern Mississippi, with UTSA also ready to challenge if the Dogs and Golden Eagles falter.

My dark horse pick is North Texas, but from my perspective, the chances for the Mean Green to be in the championship game are, in reality, slim and none. I see the West finishing up something like this.

1. LA Tech
2. Southern Miss
3. UTSA
4. North Texas
5. Rice
6. UTEP
7. UAB

Ahh, now to the East. As in the West, there are really only three teams that appear ready to compete for the title. Perhaps fittingly, the majority opinions support either a Western Kentucky three-peat or a Middle Tennessee breakthrough, and they both clearly deserve this preseason vote of confidence. While given some consideration, the third challenger in the East, Old Dominion, is generally more of an afterthought. But --

The Toppers go on the road in mid-October to take on the Monarchs on a Friday night, and, with home field advantage, ODU gets the win and a little revenge for last year's beat down. WKU then has Middle Tennessee at home four weeks later, and I think the Blue Raiders slip out of Bowling Green with a hard fought win.

This will set up a game for all the East marbles when ODU travels to Murfreesboro in the last week of the season, where in a shootout, the Monarchs defense makes just enough stops to go home with the win.

FAU as the number four team in the East, but my dark horse pick here is Marshall. While the Herd is really difficult to predict this year, my instincts are that they will be improved (hard not to be), but will not be able to contend for the East title. That said, they also could be capable of roaring right back into the championship game. So -- their chances? Slim, but not none. Here's the way I see the East.

1. ODU
2. MTSU
3. WKU
4. FAU
5. Marshall
6. Charlotte
7. FIU

So -- ODU hosts Tech, and the Dogs go home with their second loss in Norfolk as the Monarchs get their first C-USA championship.

Last thoughts. First, Charlotte and UAB both could be a little better than most of us think. Second -- yeah, I made the homer pick, but I actually believe the Monarchs could take it all this year.

I think we beat ODU at home and on homecoming. It will be a tough game. The Miami game will tell us all we need to know about the Herd.

I admit FIU was kind of cheeky, but I had trouble thinking UTSA wouldn't have a conference loss coming in to Ruston. I went with FIU since it's UTSA's first trip outside of Texas.

If we do lose a conference game before our meeting with you guys, I think it'll be one of the three games prior to FIU because we face North Texas, Rice, and UTEP in the 3 weeks prior to our trip to Florida, and have to face all three of them after their bye weeks. Two of them (UNT and UTEP) will be on the road, and those would be the most likely candidates for upsets. Marshall might be a tough one also if they're improved, but I'd like to think we'll take care of business in our last home game of the season.

We do if this guy wants his article/blog read.

He actually did work on it so it's no worse than what everyone else posted in the other thread. He just created a new one so you'd look at his link.

They "shouldn't" have been a problem last year either, but we played Rice after their bye last year and squeaked out a narrow 14-13 win that easily could've been a loss if not for their 2 missed field goals. Mind you, Rice was a mere 3-9 team last year and also had more first downs and more yards than we did in that game.

As for UTEP, they finished 4-8 last year and actually did beat us in overtime at our own Alamodome, also after a bye for them.

We struggle against teams after their bye weeks, and this will be the 2nd straight year we're facing both Rice and UTEP after their byes, so I'm not overlooking anyone.

I never said losing to FIU is near impossible, nor did I imply it anywhere in my comment. All my comment was meant to convey was that I think we're more likely to lose one of the 3 games I mentioned above.

I'm thinking UTSA and Latech will go neck and neck with each other with the last game deciding who wins the West. Here hoping Latechs kryptonite southern miss, takes out Latech mid season so UTSA has some breathing room.

Just curious, why do you think losing to FIU is near impossible?

I never said losing to FIU is near impossible, nor did I imply it anywhere in my comment. All my comment was meant to convey was that I think we're more likely to lose one of the 3 games I mentioned above.

No worries, I know our only game was a defensive struggle in the alamadome. Your D was relentless. I think our O will not be as predictable as Ron Turner's O was. Plus I'm hoping y'all are as jinxed in the state of Florida as UTEP 02-13-banana
