RE: JMU vs ECU prediction
ECU fans, why are you guys so confident? Do you really think your transfer QB will make that big of a difference? Do you really think you're that much better than last year and, if so, why?

FBS teams should beat FCS teams due to the amount of scholarships they have. But it's weird to see a 3 win FBS team say they'll win by 20-30 points over the FCS champs that just ran through teams once they hit their stride in early October and look even better this year.

but but but they've played FCS teams before and crushed them. and didn't you know that all FCS teams are the exact same? all of them. top to bottom, they're the exact same. all FBS teams are the same way. perfectly equal.

RE: JMU vs ECU prediction
FWIW, if I was an ECU fan.. I'd be saying the same thing. This will be the second toughest offense JMU faces this season. #1 is Richmond IMHO. WR is a strength for ECU and this is something that burns JMU every time we play a FBS team. Won't be shocked if ECU hits multiple plays over the top just due to speed/size advantage. (i.e. see Maryland and UNC games)

I called 31-21 JMU. Sticking with it, but won't be shocked one bit if it goes differently and turns into a shoot out.

JMU is favored at ECU.

The only other FCS school this year favored over a FBS school is......

Non existent.

The next closest line in Iowa St favored over UNI by 13.5.

Thanks for the $!

Sirk's Stats in 2 seasons at Duke (didn't play in 2016 due to injury). He only started in the 2015 season.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/pla...irk-1.html

I don't know. Nothing screams "earth shattering" to me. In 24 games (12 started): 19 passing TDS to 8 Ints. 16 rushing TDs.

I think this game will mirror the JMU/UNC game. The Dukes may take an early lead or strike first blood. But ECU will run away with it late.

03-lmfao Silliest prediction yet. ECU is no UNC. The Dukes indeed may take an early lead, and then continue to build on it.

JMU by two scores (only if JMU allows a late score or two by ECU). This one won't be close folks, and ECU fans will be bellyaching just like SMU fans from two seasons ago.

SMU fans did talk a lot of smack. And after they gave Baylor a run for their money they thought JMU was a "gimme"...as such, I really enjoyed every second of that game, and the crow the SMU fans had to eat. If JMU been able to play D the victory over SMU would have been a blowout. Bad news for ECU, JMU's offense is better and more diversified than the O that scored at will on SMU, and JMU now has a D to match the O.

Honest question: Going into the ECU contest, is JMU undefeated against AAC FB teams? Whatever the W-L record is, JMU will pad it with a "W" over ECU.

I think the transfer QB will be a big difference because he knows the offense. Our present coach was the offensive coordinator when Sirk was at Duke. Our players now have a year under this offense so they have a better understanding of it. So yes I truly believe we will be much better than last year.

There was so much behind the scene issues with that 3-9 team that is not there this year. ECU is really gonna surprise a lot folks this year. If we stay healthy during fall camp then this year will better than last year.

Football would not be football if some smack was not involved. Besides you guys have talked way more smack than any ECU fan. JMU maybe in for a rude awakening.

I honestly hope it is a better season for ECU. Your team will still lose to JMU this year, but I wish you the best moving forward.

ECU may be in for one too! We may be FCS but only in NCAA designation. I think we are as good or better than most of the bottom half of the FBS teams.

For real. Last year we won a National Championship (after routing every team in the playoffs and only losing to a P5 team) in the first year under our new head coach with a new offense and defense. Imagine what we can do with another year under OUR belts?! I would take our coaching staff over probably any coaching staff outside of P5 and even most of those. That's the difference maker to me.

Oh, and do you know who our WR coach worked under before he came to JMU last year? Montgomery at Duke. Soooo it's not like the ECU offense or Sirk is gonna be a surprise to our coaching staff....

let me ask you a different question then. let's say you were 9-3 last year.

what do you think Tech fans would be saying about your matchup with them? What would YOU be saying back to them?

when you are "perceived" to be the lesser team, and you truly believe you are not, then you get threads like this and you get comments from us like you are getting.
You really can't fault us for being confident.

We watched our team last year steamroll people at the end of the year when we presumably were playing top teams. We watched our team go into the toughest environment in FCS and soundly beat a team that had earlier beat a ranked p5 team (Iowa) that was better than you will be this year.

We know what we have coming back and the talent we added.

we feel good about our team. Damn good. Obnoxiously good.

but again, you really can't fault us for thinking that way. Any other squad in the same situation would feel the same, including your own.

I don't think anyone expects the same team this year. But we expect a similar team to start the season. It's extremely rare for a team to go from 3-9 and terrible to 9-3 like some of you are talking like you'll be this year...and start the year at 100%. Do I think (barring injuries) that by week 3 or 4 ECU could be MUCH better than last year, sure, and you probably will be. However, to expect that at the start of the season you'll hit the ground running with no confidence, rust, coaching, or communication issues seems a bit optimistic to me. If we were playing ECU in the middle of the season I may be a little more worried, but not in week 1. If JMU brings their A game, ECU will have to have zero issues from the beginning, and I don't see that happening.

I don't know what ECU's record will be for the season, but come the end of the game on September 2 it will be 0-1.
