It's August and all of the teams are in camp getting ready for zero hour. In other words football season has started. You're not going to get a lot of basketball talk on this forum really until conference play kicks off so you might want to find an interest in football for a few months.

Basketball is ok, but it only helps kill time in between football seasons

Old but interesting article. Lotsa "basketball schools" in this league... Maybe this place has potential. I won't give up on ya'll.

P.S. If I could be allowed to add Wichita State to that article: "Wichita State, undefeated in football since 1986... basketball school"

P.S.S. Dare I say Wichita State's addition breaks the stalemate and the AAC is once again a basketball conference? 02-13-banana

Basketball has also exploded worldwide with innumerable professional leagues that pay their players quite well. We have countries you've barely heard of extremely competitive in Olympic basketball now. To say that basketball as a sport is much larger than American football would not be a stretch. I think it's no coincidence that AAC fans who say they don't care a bit about college basketball generally have poopy bball programs that haven't done much in the modern era. If I could skip football season and head straight into basketball season, I would in a heartbeat. I want UC football to win and I watch them on TV, but IMO UC didn't become a school that cared about football until the last 12 years or so and now all the sudden its as if Football is our premier sport at UC. For me basketball is king.

I listen to multiple year round basketball podcast in the offseason and refresh the r/collegebasketball page way too much

umm...wut?

We are very much a football school. The shift started a few years ago.

This. Times have changed. If UCONN was a basketball-first school, why the hell would we be in the AAC when we could've gone Big East?

All 4 of those schools mentioned have been football schools since 2014. 07-coffee3

college basketbll was huge before the tourney came about

you think its the tourney thats saving college basketball but its the tourney that likely ruins it
anyone decent makes the tourney, losing individual games is meaningless,
if the tourney went to 4 teams and losing a single game eliminate you, the college basketball regular season would be 20x more popular

as for the players it plays into it aswell, but the new 1 and done phase is 8 years old, and going straight to the nba was only popular for about 10 years prior to that (college bball is 150yrs old)..but it does play into it, you arent given enough time to fall in love with stars (or hate them) so the story-lines arent as good

but i guarantee you in 4 years that rule will change, it will go to straight to the nba (bring it back) or 2 years of school minimum

This is a terrible argument. Football is king in America. Basketball might be bigger globally but so is soccer. So either move to a 3rd world country or deal with Football being king. Nothing beats saturdays in the fall!

MBB has gotten worse and worse btw. That is not just my opinion, one and dones (among other problems) have created a poor product.

This hasn't been an option for quite some time.

And also, basketball is the second most popular sport in the world and the fastest growing sport. Basketball has higher salaries and bigger endorsment deals than any other game. America is home to the two best basketball leagues in the world- the NBA and the NCAA D-1.

Roughly 31 million people attended an NCAA basketball last year. While it is vastly out attended by football (49 million), it is still higher than the womens game. To say no one pays attention to it is a mistake.

Football might be king in texas, but this is the American, and we have no king.

Yeah and soccer is the #1 sport in the world. Meaningless argument. In US of A Football is number 1 in collegiate and professional sports by a huge margin.

"Interesting. So if I'm really successful at one noble profession, I should drop it to practice another, even if I suck at it and continually embarrass myself because it has a higher income ceiling. Brilliant!"

Feel good, successful philanthropic career at a $30K salary vs a high-end real estate career, where one deal could make me six figures? To each their own, but I'm taking the real estate job every time. 07-coffee3
