Hoping it's part of CBS All Access. I already pay $10/month to watch all episodes in their database commercial-free (plus BB live feeds & BB:OTT). They also have Startrek and other things there.

It won't be...CBS News will be though.

However, CBS will be the first major network to offer their sports network as a stand alone OTT channel.

This is very interesting. Great find. This sounds more like a CBS version of Stadium them selling the current CBS Sports Network in an OUT format.

I know the CAA commissioner has talked about partnering with CBS digital and I hadn't a clue as to what he was talking about. This new venture would make sense and be an interesting alternative to ESPN3 and Stadium

No cable sports channels offer full access to those without a subscription to a cable/sat/streaming bundle, that I'm aware of. So this is a first.

Will be interesting to see how they price it relative to CBSSN carriage fee.

Here is an article. Says it will be modeled after the CBS digital 24/7 news channel which was free.

With CBS contracts this service would probably have some quality subsidiary programming and minor events like regular season CAA basketball.

It will be interesting to see how this and the actual CBS Sports Network coexist

Ah, so more like CBSSN3.com?

Been living without CBS Sports on PSVUE since it started, never was a huge impact since I got OTA CBS, all ESPN. Fox, Regional, SEC & B10. Don't get me wrong, love to have it add but I would not pay extra for it.

It's important to AAC/MWC/MAC fans.

Sounds like it after reading that article. "The un-named sports network" seems to indicate it won't be CBSSN. Maybe similar to to others where you sign in with your cable or OTT provider like Fox Sports Go or Watch ESPN.
Guess we'll see later this year. I thought from the tweet, it would be a stand-alone service for CBSSN.

From the article, it doesn't sound like it will be CBS SN. Not sure it would be free, but never thought it would.
But tweet that quoted Moonvies, says it will be CBS SN.
Conflicting info.

So it won't be a standalone, streaming CBSSN available to the general public, after all.

Even CBSSN aren't ready to go there ...

CBS SN has streaming for authenticated subscribers just like ESPN, FOX, and NBC. The problem is none of the big players partner with them and it's not available on streaming devices so it's as if it's not there

I doubt CBS would give up on CBS SN and forfeit those subscriber fees so this new venture will be fun to watch unfold

RE: CBS rolling out CBS Sports Network as a separate OTT channel
No that wasn't the point. Everyone and their mom has streaming options .... for those who already subscribe to a bundle. That's nothing.

The major leap forward, as has always been prophasized by the zealots, are standalone streams that anyone with an internet connection can subscribe to, independent of a bundle subscription. This leap has largely yet to materialize, save HBO and Showtime.

Lastly, why are you making up that a channel would have to cease operating its traditional channel in order to also provide that same channel as a standalone stream? No one has ever said that and highly doubtful that would be the case. HBO and Showtime didn't stop being offered on cable/sat simply because they offer standalone streaming.

Boomerang also follows HBO/Showtime. They are part of the cable/OTT bundles but also have a standalone OTT channel that you pay a subscription to access their on-demand cartoon library.

RE: CBS rolling out CBS Sports Network as a separate OTT channel
That's another interesting point to bring up -- on-demand vs a streaming version of the actual channel.

No standalone streaming services offer the latter, that I'm aware of. HBO Now, Showtime (standalone), and you're saying Boomerang, only offer an on-demand library. Granted, the latest episodes of shows (at least on HBO and Showtime) are released at the same time as they first air on the channel.

But I've only seen streaming services that require a bundle subscription giving access to a streaming version of the actual channel (for example, I've done this with WatchESPN and CNN).

The price for HBO's standalone streaming service if $15 a month. By the time you start signing up for standalone sports channels, kids channels, Netflix. You would have been better off just getting cable.

I have made many posts on this topic. The only way and I mean the only way you can save money by cutting the cord is by meeting one of two conditions:

1. You are willing to sacrifice variety and quality to save money.
2. You are either borrowing someone's login for other services or illegally streaming things.

My sophomore year of college cutting the cord went great for me. I borrowed my mom's HBO, Starz, and ESPN3 login. And I only paid for DSL internet, Netflix, and Hulu. This put me at $40 or so and was great for me. But this was only true because I was borrowing what someone else was paying for.

Throw HBO and something else into that picture and it's as expensive as cable.
