Exclamation Solar Eclipse Holiday....
Several govt. offices, school systems, banks, and businesses in areas of Middle TN that are in direct line of the eclipse track as it crosses KY/TN are closing. The Nashville/Clarksville/Hopkinsville area is expected to draw an estimated 200,000 visitors.

My employer (headquartered in Clarksville) has decided to close that day.

RE: Solar Eclipse Holiday....
I've had this planned as a vacation day for two years. My wife and in laws are planning to drive to Hopkinsville, if the weather appears the most favorable there. It is a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity. Looks like there will be some traffic.

RE: Solar Eclipse Holiday....
Does anyone know if the "approved" eclipse glasses are being given out in the Memphis area? I've seen where some libraries, etc., in the direct path are, so before I get some for our family via Amazon, I thought I'd check.

Just bought these on Amazon - they're one of the NASA approved vendors. Backordered until 8/15, but with prime they'll still be here in time.

I just plan to find a shade tree and look for the little moon shadows on the ground. Some years ago when there was a solar eclipse, I remember doing that.

Too bad his online store only sells them in minimums of 50. I'm sure he's making bank with schools, etc., right now though.

RE: Solar Eclipse Holiday....
Last full solar eclipse, this unknown guy from a bay area observatory showed up right outside the store with fancy telescope. Everyone had left for the top of the mountain to chant juju in case the earth went totally dark forever....which mean about 8 of us got to see all the stages of the eclipses without glasses. He sent pics.

I know Germantown Municipal schools will let the students outside when it happens to view the eclipse. My friends in Nashville area are out of school.
