Odd that both the men's and women's marathon are both taking place today. I don't recall any major competition ever before with that type of set-up (outside of city marathons that are run every year). I wonder if that's a nod to security issues?

If you pay for NBC Sports Gold you can see all the field events.

The marathons were run today to avoid blocking off streets on a weekday.

RE: Ari Ince update
I get the part about blocking off the streets and it's pretty common they are on a Sunday at the World Championships/Olympics. But the meet concludes next Sunday and don't they usually run one marathon on one Sunday and the other the following Sunday?

eta - maybe this is normal procedure for World Champs. I know it's done differently for Olympics.

All the race walks are next Sunday, so the roads will again be closed/occupado.

The automatic mark for advancing to the finals is 63.50 meters (208' 4"). If 12 throwers do not reach that distance, the field for the finals will be filled to 12 according to top marks in prelims.

Her lifetime best, achieved this summer, is 61.38 meters (201' 4").

Ari's 13th in the B Qualification group, with a throw of 54.52 meters and two fouls.

(In both groups, 7 have thrown over 63.5 meters.)
