RE: 29 Days to Kickoff... #29 Jr. RB Marcus Marshall
that's a great tape...he has what Khalid has - multiple moves in a small space and great foot speed. With MM we are picking up more leg speed and size...so, damn....

realizing they were just highlights, but with triple option it seems many of his moves comes at half-speed, rather than flat from the backfield. Not sure how deep we'll set up, but his momentum seems to be a big part of success - hitting the gaps and other people with 10 feet of running already behind him

I'm a little concerned about his pass blocking. Pass blocking is to run blocking what water skiing is to snow skiing. They rely on different techniques. Yes, Marshall did a lot of blocking at GT, but it was misdirection run blocking. Our high school did it's fair share of passing (the QB --Marcus's teammate) is a reserve at ECTC. I'm hopeful some of that experience comes back to him.

Agree. My comments about him blocking at GT was less about technique. And, I already stated he did very little pass blocking at GT. The reason I mentioned that Paul Johnson demands his RB's block or they don't play is more around it isn't like MM is coming from a system where RB's carry the ball only or run screen/downfield routes out of the backfield only. IOW, he is used to contact and will throw his body in pass protections whether that be straight up or cut blocking. The B-Backs in Paul Johnson's offense get hit (and often hard by big dudes) on almost every play whether they get the belly dive handoff or not. So, contact is something MM should be used to.

The technique part as you so accurately pointed out with your skiing analogy is where he will have to step up (or step out if he doesn't get it done). Having said that, I have faith he will do well protecting #17. And, like our other RB's, he will be a helluva screen pass or wheel route option multiple times a game. I'm curious to see if Stiney and Kirkpatrick utilize any 2-back sets - particularly inside the 5 yard line - or splitting out a RB in the slot more frequently. Lots of quality options with the depth we have in the backfield. Imagine linebackers having to cover Kloosterman and Marshall/Johnson/Sharp. I like our chances. 03-thumbsup

Or better yet, a hook and lateral from Kloosterman to Marshall. We've got talent at the skill positions for endless trick plays, especially in spread formations. Think of halfback options with young Mr. Cheatham throwing the ball.

His running style is a lot like Landers, but with more speed. Hoping we have a new Superman.

Marcus is the one player I'm most wanting to see this year.

I'm not expecting alot versus ECU - First game, new line, 1A Defense, big crowd - but I'm excited about his next two years.
