OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
Since I know a lot of you are streamers I'm hoping someone might be able to help with this.

About a week ago Netflix stopped uploading any data to my Roku. Even the thumbnails for scrolling won't come up. If I try to click on one it slowly a builds up to 25% and stops there. This happened on both my Roku devices at virtually the same time.

Every other app on the Roku streams normally. It's just Netflix. Anyone know how to resolve this?

And before anyone offers the smart ass replies I have done everything logical to do such as logging out, resetting the device, unplugging the device and uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Thanks.

In this order I would:
1. Log out
2. Reset the device
3. Unplug the device
4. Uninstall the app.
5. Reinstall the app.

RE: OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
In all seriousness, I can't imagine what would cause that. I'm on the road so I can't check my Roku to see if the same happened on mine.

My youngest son bought me a firestick for Father's Day. The Netflix app on there has much better picture quality than my very old Roku had. So I actually haven't used my Roku for over a month.

Won't be back to BG until Saturday or Sunday. I'll check mine then.

RE: OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
I have had that rare 25% issue now and then but none for quite some time. How many devices are tied to your wifi?

The current issue I have recently is scrolling freezes a little and then releases.

I like Roku's setup vs Firestick

So, my wifi is the phone. There are six devices connected but rarely that many actually active at the same time. But as I mentioned the Roku works fine otherwise. It's just Netflix.

Using the settings option on Netflix, I ran the connection test and everything came up fine with the green checkmark but when it did the speed test it said 0 MB. So, for whatever reason, NF isn't receiving the data.

I have a Roku TV (TCL brand) and haven't experienced any issues recently but some slowness. Maybe it's a related issue?

RE: OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
I do a lot of Netflix watching on my Roku and I haven't had that problem. It sounds like a network issue. Is nothing else slow for you on your WiFi?

OT but WTF is WiFi even short for? Wireless Fidelity? **** technology IMO.

Updates. Sometimes a app will auto update and the player also needs to be update to stay synced

Software is dog poo. You can't always explain it, but I'll be damned if you can't smell it from a mile away.

RE: OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
I had a similar issue with the YouTube app on my Roku once. I have two Roku's but it worked on my other Roku so I removed that app and re-added it. It fixed the problem.

Good idea. I guess that's the answer to my question about how you update Roku apps.

Everything else is working fine for me on the network. Good mb/s and no problems with buffering. Amazon Vid, Watch ESPN, Hulu, etc are all working as expected. It's just Netflix.

RE: OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
I would first try a soft reset by doing the following;
using your remote press Home 5x, Up 1x, Rewind 2x then FF 2x. It should scroll the side bar and then turn off and back on, after which Netflix should work.

If that doesn't work, do a hard reset. If depends on your model; older ones have reset button on the back of the box while newer ones it can be done through the settings menu.

The hard reset is a factory restore. So if you go that route be prepared to reinstall everything.

Hope that helps.

If nothing else works, it might be signal strength. Netflix streams differently than other apps and is more susceptible to a weaker signal. We have one room in our house where our Wi-Fi signal is weak. A simple router restart helps. However, since you're using your phone's signal, you could buy a signal booster.

As I mentioned in the OP, I already did the soft reset. I'm hoping to avoid executing the wipe reset as I'm not convinced that will work and will just cause me a lot of ass pain. Hoping there is a simple but not so obvious fix to this. The Roku and wifi aren't the problems. It appears to be an issue with Netflix, but I don't know how to resolve that.

RE: OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
It happens to me every once in a while, I just hit the home button on the remote and then go back into netflix and that fixes it. I know you said everything else works fine, but the fact that you're using your phone as the wifi would be the first thing I would link to a problem like that. If I used my phone as the wifi hot spot nothing would work on my roku!

I have had some issues, but at worst unplugging and restarting the system usually fixes it. It does still freeze up on me sometimes when I am scrolling, but I just hit the home button and it seems to go away.

RE: OT: Netflix on Roku Issues
I would bet that it's signal strength. Some apps will load more of what you're streaming before it plays, giving you a chance to watch with a weak signal. Netflix isnt one of those apps. Get a signal booster.
