JMU @ RFK
Saw on AGS that G'town is playing Harvard at RFK. JMU has got to do something similar at least once a year. I think that would go further to re-engaging alumni than any BFS game would. In such a big/historic venue we could probably even entice a juicy FBS match up, perhaps even get some ESPN coverage.
Some possible, winnable draws would be: ODU, Navy, Army, App State. If we have to stay with FCS then Richmond, Delaware, W&M, NDST, Montana, etc.

RE: JMU @ RFK
What makes RFK Stadium historic? The fact that it is old? Run down?
The same thing was said of the Vet here in Philly when it was razed. The only think historic about the Vet was that it was a historically bad venue.

Yeah I have fond memories of RFK with the nationals playing there, but it's far from a great venue. It's old and it shows. I'd honestly rather be at bridgeforth.

Once DC United leaves that stadium it'll likely end up being demolished.

This would require Deez leaving the bubble, he doesn't like leaving the bubble, the bubble is his friend.

No way I give up a home game in Bridgeforth against a CAA opponent to play in RFK. And I doubt any FBS school would enter into a contract to play in RFK.

RE: JMU @ RFK
I think the Skins are going to be building a new stadium in the coming years. I wonder what will happen to FedEx Field. I agree RFK should be demolished once DCU moves into their new digs at Buzzard Point next year sometime.
I like the idea, but agree it should be with an opponent that will draw a bunch of folks AND will get ESPN-type national exposure. For instance, a game against NDSU the week before Labor Day (Week Zero) on ESPN would be fun. Bison fans will bring a slew of fans...and, DC is a good place to travel to with all the monuments, museums, etc.
I'm glad to see the P5 programs embracing and growing the Labor Day weekend kickoff neutral-site games more and more. I hope D1A playoffs grow from 4 to 8 and preferably at least 12 (top 4 teams get byes), meaningless exhibition games in late December die, and meaningFUL bowl games grow to populate opening weekend by moving from late December to early September.

RE: JMU @ RFK
I wouldn't expect the bubble-ites to be excited. This is about getting back on the radar of an under-served alumni base, not catering to those afraid of leaving the bubble.
If we could convince an FBS team to play at RFK vs their stadium we wouldn't be losing a home game, we'd be basically gaining a home game. RFK may be a dump but everyone knows it and it's in a familiar location. Guess I should have said "nostalgic" vs "historic". It's certainly a better forum than the majority of stadiums we play at. The cost to play there would be a fraction of FedEx. Granted Navy might not want to do it since it's so close to Annapolis but I'd think ODU or maybe even App would love to get up to the DC area to take on JMU. Army obviously has a huge DC connection and other FBS schools would love to play in front of a recruiting bed they don't get much exposure to (why else would WV have traveled all the way to FedEx?). We won't get a top-tier FBS team to come but I'm sure there are plenty of options.

When you live in the best bubble in the world, why leave.

The only soccer stadium I'm excited to see a JMU football game at is at Toyota Stadium in Frisco Tx. There's nothing special about RFK. And you want me to go there for a JMU-Richmond game? What?
Grow up Dadgum.

Just hard to think we played WVU @ FedEx, but now we'll schedule a game in the dump that is RFK.

Some people are so eager to agree with the people they perceive as being right, they'll say dumb ****.

why tho? they won't play us at their place or ours, why would they travel to a "dump" as you called it (I share that opinion) to play before a theoretical JMU home crowd?

Yeah well I thought lowering the bar might incite these guys to do something in the DC market. Of course FedEx would be ideal but do you really see these guys getting another deal like that done? Wasn't the WV game orchestrated by someone else?

I appreciate the creative thinking...we need more of it on the inside the turkey belt.

There are plenty of ODU and App alumni in the DC area. DC has large alumni bases from a ton of schools. How many JMU alumni in that area that don't travel to Harrisonburg would really turn down an opportunity to see JMU play so close because of some sort of snob factor about the conditions at RFK? Who the h3ll cares? If the admin can get something going at FedEx than great but, like you, I don't think they care to make any kind of effort.

Playing in a dump, located in a dump of a neighborhood, next to a floating dump of a river, would re energize alumni?

I mean, I'm down. I just wonder if the will is there (not only on JMU's side). It would definitely have to be the right opponent.

What about App St. @ Bank of America in Charlotte. It would be a home game for them (but wouldn't be in Boone)...it would be in an NFL stadium, offer exposure in NC for recruiting and press and Charlotte would be a fun city to visit. Maybe if there was enough $ in the payout?!
