Complaints about Big Ten basketball scheduling
https://sports.yahoo.com/big-ten-doesn-t...rc=fauxdal

Apparently several schools are upset by the conference's failure to schedule rivalry games on a home and home basis, including Indiana-Purdue, Michigan-Michigan St., and Northwestern-Illinois.

This shouldn't be hard to rectify. If the conference established a single opponent for each school to play twice annually, the conference could schedule the remaining 12 schools on a home and home basis on a three year rotation. (H/H vs. Rival + 8 single games + 4 rotating H/H series = 18 games.)

Possible rivals:

Indiana-Purdue
Michigan-Michigan St.
Northwestern-Illinois
Iowa-Nebraska
Minnesota-Wisconsin
Rutgers-Penn St.
Maryland-Ohio St.

Pretty stupid the big 10 doesn't copy the sec format for basketball. Throw in putting Purdue in the big 10 west for football and Michigan state in the east. This should be proof enough the Jim Delany is ******* but than you have his expansion moves to destabilize other conferences and chase ND forever to add to the list

have you looked at a map? Purdue is definitely further west than Michigan St is. Not even remotely close there.

That makes sense, or you could just go with 5 permanent rivals you play twice every year and 8 other schools you play once every year.

I think the Big 10 will end up moving to a 20 game conference schedule which will make it a little easier on scheduling rivalries.

20 works perfect.

1. Rival x2 = 2
2A. 6 schools x2 = 12
2B. 6 schools x1 = 6

Just rotate 2A & 2B each year.

The Big Ten screwed Minnesota and Wisconsin out of a home/home this year. Absolutely f____ing stupid. Morons. Dips___ts.

Obviously you can tell I was not a fan of that.

I don't know this for a fact, but I think more Purdue alumni live in Chicago than Indy, and they may even consider Illinois to be a bigger rival than IU.

Count me as one who thinks this is self-inflicted by the conference to get the members to agree to such a schedule.

"Well, we have this problem, and what we have, which is the most fair option we think we can offer, doesn't make anyone happy. We just can't see any other way than expand the conference season." That kind of stuff. Where the easy solution all of the fans can readily spot can't be utilized because a bunch of stiffs need to feel like they have a say on everything.

Purdue considers their top rival to be Indiana. By a large margin (I got my grad degree from Purdue 2 years ago).

Yes, Purdue has more alumni in Chicago than Indy. But so does Indiana (more in Chicago than Indy), Wisconsin (more in Chicago than Milwaukee), and Iowa (more in Chicago than Des Moines). Chicago is gigantic.

3rd largest metro area in the country.
