RE: Zach Pascal - Skins training camp update page
"Kendall Fuller had a big day: Second-year nickelback Kendall Fuller recorded two interceptions to kick off training camp with a bang. His first pick came while playing underneath coverage on wide receiver Brian Quick, and with Josh Norman playing over the top. Fuller got better position on the slightly underthrown Kirk Cousins pass and made a diving catch. Later, Fuller read third-string QB Nate Sudfeld perfectly. Sudfeld riffled the ball down the right sideline, but undrafted rookie wide receiver Zach Pascal ran the wrong route and after running down the sideline, cut inside toward the center of the field. Fuller let Pascal keep running because he saw the ball coming his way and made the easy catch."

And some more here:

Now Zach Pascal gets open deep, leaving Kendall Fuller far behind. He holds on to the pass for the deep completion. "

RE: Zach Pascal - Skins training camp update page
Here's something:

Quote:--Another wide receiver who had a good day on Saturday was rookie Zach Pascal out of Old Dominion. During 7-on-7 drills, Pascal made two tough catches including diving grab in front of cornerback Dashaun Phillips. Then during 11-on-11 drills, Pascal caught two more passes. Gruden said before practice he’s already liked what he’s seen out of Pascal, but that he must have the flexibility to play all of the wide receiver positions.

RE: Zach Pascal - Skins training camp update page
Quote:Jay Gruden on WR Zach Pascal joking that he’d learn how to kick field goals if necessary to make the team:

“Hopefully he won’t have to kick a field goal. He’s a big, physical kid. I liked him at Old Dominion. I really did. I saw a lot of tape on him. He’s done a good job. The big thing for him is he’s got to have position flexibility. You’ve got to know all three and that’s tough for a rookie. Then he’s got to do some things on special teams that can crack into the lineup somehow, and that’s the start. Special teams are the start for a lot of young guys that are trying to make the roster. So if he can do well on special teams, that will be a huge plus for him. If he’s got position flexibility, that will be another huge plus for him. Then obviously he’s got to make the plays when they are given.”

He pretty well spells out the formula for making the team. make the special teams unit, then learn all WR positions during the year.

I really think he's going to make the cut.

It's going to boil down to making plays in the preseason games when he gets the opportunity to do so. Most teams keep 5-6 WR on the 53 man. You know Pryor, Crowder, Doctson, and Brian Quick are making it.

If he doesn't make the 53 man, I feel like he's got a really good shot of making the practice squad. The silver lining to that is it will essentially give him a redshirt year to learn and grow and be ready to compete for a 53 man spot again next summer.

RE: Zach Pascal - Skins training camp update page
people in the know please respond. Just how valuable is being on the practice squad? My understanding is they play the role of the next opponent and thus rarely get to run Redskin plays. Not sure how anyone learns much being on the PS. Of course they might be next man up if someone on the 53 man roster gets hurt.
I may be over valuing Zach, but I really think there are multiple other teams who could use him on their active roster. If the Skins waive him, I hope someone else picks him up rather than going to PS

Quick isn't a lock to make it, but Grant and Harris could spell trouble.

Locks:
Pryor
Crowder
Doctson

Most likely:
Grant

Realistically, Pascal is fighting for one of two spots.

Robert Davis- physical freak that was actually drafted by Skins this year so he has a bit of a headstart.
Maurice Harris- Played some last year and has been impressive
Brian Quick- Experience WR that has produced some in the NFL
James Quick- Like Pascal, he has played well in camp.

He's a very long shot to make it. I think practice squad.

Even before training camp started there was probably a 90% chance that ZP would end up on the PS. Any thing else is gravy. Its good for him and his development.

ZP was great for us, no doubt, but there is a reason he went undrafted. There are tons of guys just like him all over the league.

NFL Europe does not exist anymore. No player would ever make it back to NFL if they go play for a semipro independent team in Europe. Not an option.

Numbers game is against Zach. Maybe a tough fight for practice squad also. Again, there should be several other teams which would be a better situation for him:
