As a Liberty fan I'd love to have JMU as a regular FBS rival and I know that seems like a pipe dream right now. But check out the contract extensions we just anounced today:

You know what? We don't have enough threads started by Liberty fans. How refreshing.

On a side note though, I think we can now put to bed the argument from some on here that UVA and VT won't bother to come to Harrisonburg. If they go to Norfolk and Lynchburg, they'll go to Harrisonburg.

JMU wants to move to FBS. They're just waiting for an opportunity that the administration can stomach (aka not the Sun Belt).

We are building our indy schedule primarily on high profile 2-for-1s and Home-and-Homes which don't give us a financial hit. I think most of us are surprised at the willingness of P5s to come to Lynchburg. I would assume they would be just as willing to come to Bridgeforth.

Congrats on getting that deal. About all you could hope for with a name P5 opponent, with you all being such a new FBS program. It does come with one big caveat though. Being that Liberty's 2nd home game is the last of the 6 game series, don't be surprised if it gets bought out. Likely a 4-1 deal with a good payday buyout in 2030. What are the expansion plans for Williams Stadium?

They are being reworked right now. We were supposedly shovel-ready on expansion to 25k when the FBS move caught us a bit off guard. And the quality of opponents we have booked to come to Lynchburg merit a much larger capacity. Hopefully we announce the plans shortly but that is the top priority for the Athletic Department right now. Conference membership is much further down the list.

I think ODU is the far larger news than Liberty. Just remember though....they'll never play us.

Yup, ODU hasn't passed us by. And before someone argues that VT only scheduled these games for recruiting purposes, I think VT has done just fine with recruiting in the 757 for the past 20 years. If anything, these games help ODU recruiting against VT. ODU can now claim they are "equal" to VT because VT is playing at ODU.

I believe at this point the only thing that will entice JMU to FBS is an administrative change at the top. Even if one of these magical regional conference realignment scenarios occurs and they rolled out a purple carpet for JMU, this administration would come up with some excuse about the shade of purple.

Isn't ODUh expanding to 35k?
Like Slyfox indicated, LU will likely expand past the already planned 25k..

These announcements pain me. I really don't wish ill for either program. But selfishly, if we were to ever move up, the regional P5s and desirable G5s are all gonna have full dance cards. It would be different if we were talking about NDSU, Northern Iowa and Montana having just moved up. But we're dealing with 2 in-state newby FBS programs along with regionals Appy, Coastal and Charlotte. If we moved up anytime soon, our OOC schedule might be pretty putrid.
