Okay, why on Earth is the land bridge not a good idea?

It means there will never be a real land bridge as designed for the stadium site across the tracks. THAT was a land bridge.

This is just an overhead pedestrian walkway. That's all it is. They attract loiterers, panhandlers, and groups that block egress.

You can't ride a bike over it. Or a wheel chair either. You either have to climb stairs or ride an elevator. Is that once or twice? I believe that's true at both ends

May as well have put up a concrete walkway with wire around the top. Oh the top - there isn't one of those either. While I like the look without it, it does rain once in a while.

There can never be a trolley to run students back and forth across campuses over it.

It's very disappointing, and it is going to prevent anything better from ever being built. And that is the real shame of it. It will never get any better.

RE: New Construction
I suspect there will be a wire cage over it in less that five years. Either kids will throw things at the trains and cars or someone will jump off it. I can't see it not getting the cage treatment relatively soon.

Anybody have a copy of the artist's rendering of the land bridge planned with the south of the tracks football stadium site?

So, the initial "Hotshot Highland Revitalization Project" pictured the land bridge as a nice expanse which very, very much added to the campus/neighborhood. I guess now it has resorted to a scary fire escape detail?

The one I first saw was part of a proposed stadium plan. It was 50 to 75 yards or more wide and was a sloped walkway all the way across. It was big enough to handle a football crowd so I guess it is much larger than the think they need. But it WAS a land bridge.

This think is just a pedestrian overpass. Putting this much money into it is questionable. Trying to make something "iconic" of it is simply moronic. All the competing area schools are going to latch on to this thing and ridicule us to death.
