RE: SBC Pre-season Camp Updates
Some Troy Notes:

Neal Brown said today after practice that we are much deeper at wide receiver and running back than we were a year ago. This will really help us down the stretch. He emphasized that we didn't have many deep options last season, and the additions of Damion Willis (EMCC's #1 receiver), Ismail Saleem (state track champion), Alvin Bryant, and Tray Eafford, and moving Deondre Douglass to the outside give us five deep threat options we just didn't have last year. That's a big deal, especially when it opens lanes for RBs Chunn and Jamarius Henderson.

He also emphasized our strength and conditioning is better this year heading into camp, and that we've been lucky (knock on wood) to have minimal injuries this far.

Tray Eafford is an interesting addition at wideout and has a very high 247 rating. He signed a while back, but I don't remember him being on the roster last year. Brown says he has serious potential to burn some guys on the outside. Hopefully this year will be like '09 when Neal's team lead the nation in receivers (24 caught passes that year).

Looks like our transfer QB is a 50/50 shot at starting, or at least being back, before the season. Seems he just took the GRE on Monday and it will depend on his grade; which will take 10-15 days to come back.

Where are you getting 50/50 from?

If he passes the GRE he will start. If he doesn't pass, he's toast.

Yeah that's not how odds work, otherwise I'd claim there's a 50/50 chance I bang Emily Ratajkowski...either I do (50/) or I do not (50).

RE: SBC Pre-season Camp Updates
That was a very talented team on display in Centennial Bank stadium yesterday, and easily the most talented of the recent run of "decent" teams.

You guys have done pretty well without an offense the last four years, will be interesting to see what you can do with an outstanding one.

On defense you guys just reload with even more and better athletes. The vast majority of P5's would love to have the athletes to put together something close to your 1st team defense.

At some point this year this is going to be a very special team. Just a question of when.

RE: SBC Pre-season Camp Updates
They updated A-States roster on their official site, and what was interesting was they changed the weights of the players, because they had pretty much left the weights whatever they were when the payers signed.

As you would expect most players are heaver than they had been showing, but a few of the players on the offense have slimmed down some. The defense is pretty much bigger than advertised across the board, especially the front four.

The RBs are noticeably heaver, with dynamic starter Warren Wand packing 191lbs of muscle on his 5'-4.5". They look for Wand to rush for more than 1000 yards so quality shinguard's and cups will be in big demand for their opponents defense.

Their primary backups had been in the 180lb range but Johnston White in now 196lb, Jamal Jones 195lb, and Armond Weh Weh up from 205lb to 214lb. They make no bones about wanting to be a downhill running team in 2017, and it looks like the RB's are a little more in line with what you need to be one.

Nice little OT training camp story
Good Vibes: What's behind the Texas State's chemistry in fall camp?

May be one of the last for this beat writer. He's headed to DCTF

New beat writer will be Nick Castillo, starting on 8/26

Here's your AState Camp Update

We remained undefeated in scrimmages with yet another victory over ourselves, ensuring ourselves to another camp scrimmage loss.

Haha. Am I the only one who has some internal conflict during scrimmages? I'm like "oooh look at that 80 yard TD run, our offense is finally doing something." "Oh wait... does that mean our defense sucks now?"

All I have to say is, thank goodness our defense doesn't have to defend a true triple option all year.

Most interesting thing in ULM camp is Sophmore QB Caleb Evans is pushing Garret Smith hard for the starting QB position. Evans has improved drastically since last year and Smith is back full strength, but Evans has looked just that good. Supposedly gonna see how they perform in a few games to decide the starter.

Garrett Smith is a tough SOB. I've seen that guy get rocked several times and he just gets up and keeps going.

Going to be tough call. One is the gritty gamer and other one has all the tools to be great but hasn't done it consistently. His brother was a stud at VT last year so maybe we have a superstar in the making.
