More winning!
California secession campaign can start gathering signatures
So, let's say CA becomes its own country. It's nearest foreign neighbors would be Mexico and the US.
It's longest shared border would be with the US.
Presently, CA has banned travel to 11 states using public money. Would that ban extend to the entire US? Given that the CA and US state departments would discuss those types of arrangements would the US deny access to CA if it selectively banned travel to certain states?
What would happen to the American political landscape if 55 solidly leftist electoral votes vanished from the DNC?
This could be really fun to watch.
Oh, and that joke I made about the US not having to kick in $$$ to CA for hosting the Olympics... it may still be on the table.

That move would also mark the beginning of decades of Republican dominance of the electorial college map.

So would those 55 electoral votes (well, less the 2 senate votes) be dispersed proportionately among the remaining states or would they be removed?

If, somehow, in some fantasy parallel universe, Cal did leave ... then I would fully expect, and hope, that OR, WA, MN, NY, and New England would join them. Perhaps more.

No, it'd be an independent country, having strong alliances with the USA and Canada.
Actually ... funny thought: Minnesota could go completely independent and simply refuse to have any type of military. It would essentially be protected, for free, by Canada and the USA, being in the middle of the continent.

California would be unlikely to survive outside the United States.
It does well within a given dynamic. If you remove that monetary dynamic it would be unlikely to survive.

...and how would those states survive with a population that wants everything free and without working. Would your most precious trade commodity be pink P***y hats? They're also gonna have to build a lot more houses with basements.
I welcome them to leave and please stay there with them.

It'd be easy to do, actually.
How? Because that's a made up lie.

I don't trust the Dakotas. We'd have to watch them closely.

You are polite.
18 months after they left it would be like the kids from Lord of the Flies had the power of taxation.
I feel bad for NorCal and the entire non coastal portion of the state. Perhaps they will need freedom fighters.

They'd be ok for awhile because they wouldn't fund a military so they could pay for their socialism. Eventually, illegals would take over and overwhelm the social system, and very possibly, the Mexican Army would take over the political system.

They would be part of Mexico before long. I don't say that flippantly. I think that would occur fairly rapidly.

Not much stopping that from happening without US government protection. I think it would likely occur via annexation after the illegal population gets to the point where California would agree to it without hostilities.

The 2 Senate voted would disappear but their 53 congressional seats and thus the remaining 53 electoral votes would be proportionally dispersed throughout the remainder of the states bases on population

Unless they ticked off the US.
They wouldn't have to worry about ticking off Canada.
