RE: best taco joint
Tacos from my high school lunch room. Can't beat those American cheese sprinkles on top of the Sloppy Joe meat. Had to use two hands because the grease would compromise the structural integrity of the shell at the bottom....

So many in Texas

I live in Austin and there is a Taco Deli http://www.tacodeli.com near my office which I enjoy at least twice a week. So many good tacos but favorite is the Akiushi Picadillo.

Im sure there are many great tacos in Houston and believe a Taco Deli is opening there.

RE: best taco joint
I was in Dallas for Eric Clapton's 25th anniversary tour. He played a gig with Mark Knofler (Dire Straits) at the Texas State fairgrounds pavilion.

To find our way there from our hotel, we drove city streets, instead of the higher-speed routes. This was some years ago, so maybe the area has changed. I'm confident we went past many very good taco joints.

When the language on the storefronts changed and the "lawn furniture" included a lot of sofas and recliners out at the curb, I figured we were in a great area for some tacos. We didn't stop.

Torchy's is awful. I seriously don't get it. Tacos Tierra Caliente is my favorite truck. Good stuff and you get to enjoy a beer at the Alabama Ice House with it.

I agree about Bueno over Bell. Haven't tried the muchaco though.

Dude. It will change your life.

Haha I'll have to try it! Speaking of Bueno, I was actually in that Undercover Boss episode when they came to town. I went through the drive thru. I was cool for like a week.

Authentic tacos have no cheese ? , Iam not so sure of this, I don't know the origins of the taco as we know it today but Iam assuming it started from Mexico
I've been all over Mexico for work and fishing trips and drunken boarder town " Mexican blackbird " type trips and have had many styles of tacos and it seems to me that hard shell tacos are mostly a northern Mexico and southwest USA and soft tacos are more a southern Mexico thing where I've seen greated unpasteurized goat cheese applied to soft street tacos without asking for it, and gosh lee are they really good with the cheese and corn tortillas and whatever meat they put in it . And I don't even like soft corn tortillas
You mybe right about real tacos don't have cheese but some do...
PS: were talking best tacos in AAC cities but ! I would like to give San Antonio tacos a big thumbs up !

i used to affectionately refer to my neighborhood as the taco district. there were four, count them, distinct taquerias in a two mile radius. there was the hipster joint, the trendy joint, the place that tried to be authentic, and the pillar of the community, comet. only one survives in its original form today

I'm just PISSED there's not a Chewy's in Memphis. I mean, half their shtick is about Elvis in the lobby. It is far better than any other Tex-Mex option currently in the Memphis Metro.

Torchy's is wildly inconsistent. Some locations (Heights) are amazing, while others (Wilcrest) can be plain bad.

I know it's a chain but we're supposed to be getting Fuzzy's up here pretty soon. What's the word on them?

Hit or miss similar to Torchy's. Far from authentic tacos but you can find something on the menu you'll like. The one near me only lasted about a year but the competition is feirce here.
