Sessions to announce investigations into intelligence leaks
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/07/...ource.html

Quote:A U.S. official familiar with the discussions said Tuesday that the planned announcement surrounding stepped-up efforts on leak investigations has “been in the works for some time and will most likely happen sometime in the next week.”

The news comes in the wake of days of intense pressure on Sessions, with President Trump lashing out and expressing his “disappointment” with the attorney general, through tweets, interviews and news conferences.

The investigations will look at news reports that publicized sensitive intelligence material, according to officials who have been briefed on the matter.

Quote:Trump said Tuesday that Sessions has not been tougher on leaks from the intelligence community.

"I want the attorney general to be much tougher," Trump said. "I want the leaks from intelligence agencies, which are leaking like rarely have they ever leaked before, at a very important level. These are intelligence agencies we cannot have that happen."

Anthony Scaramucci, Trump's new communications director, said Tuesday that he was prepared to "fire everybody" to stop unauthorized information coming from the press office.

Speaking to reporters, Scaramucci said that he was "not doing an investigation. I'm just going to get the leaking to stop." He stressed that he had "the authority from the president to do that."

"You're either going to stop leaking or you're going to get fired," Scaramucci said.

RE: Sessions to announce investigations into intelligence leaks
Finally. The problem is that no one, or no more than a very few, has suffered any recourse from being a leaker. People have got to be severely punished when identified as a leak source. Throw the fear of losing their career out and the leaks will end or at least will be less common. Even better, throw a couple in jail.

Yeah the press corps will throw a hissy fit but screw 'em. The first amendment doesn't guarantee them unfettered access to every government conversation.

Expect announcements of investigations into Hillary, Obama's domestic use of intelligence agencies for political purposes, and that the Russia investigation will be limited to its mandate and will have a time limit when its final report will be expected (it's not going to be allowed to turn into a never ending witch hunt). Looks like Sessions likes his job enough to actually start doing the job of running the Justice Department.

No idea why this is something that had to be sat on for so long. At least give the appearance that the aristocratic establishment class is held to the same standards of the rule of law as the proletariat.

He should be announcing arrests at this point, not an investigation.

For all the blustery partisan talk, remember that Sessions had been a Senator for a long time and spent a lot of time at social functions with the people that will be investigated....the members of that insular coy pond are chummy.

That is true. The Senate is a club. Like police officers, they are often reluctant to go after one of their own.

Agreed. I'm not going to get my hopes up too much here.

Maybe Jamie Goreleck should have considered that dictum before she set up the "wall" prohibiting government agencies from sharing information of suspected terrorists. Could have stopped 911.

Or how about when California refusing to supply ICE access to a data base with information on illegals.

I'm sure there will be an announcement and then no one will hear about it again.
