I walked onto Cypress Point when I was in the golf business and it was amazing. Played there, Pebble Beach and Spyglass. I wasn't in town long enough to play the Links At Spanish Bay.
Played Spanish Bay yesterday. The fairways were in poor condition due to water usage restrictions. Greens were fabulous. Still gorgeous!
Played Pebble Beach this afternoon. Perfect weather (65 and sunny) and near perfect condition.
Playing Cypress Point tomorrow morning. So pumped!! My 3rd trip here, but my 1st time at CP. The customer I'm with has a connection through a member. Evidently, if you play without a member (which we are), you have to go out between 7-8AM.
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!
You are going to love it, as much because of the mystique and privilege to playing it as the course itself, which is amazing. It's funny that you mention that about the fairways at Spanish Bay, because when I was there 20 years ago it was the same thing; poorly conditioned fairways.
Our company had a trade show in San Francisco. I took an extra 10 days with 2 work colleagues. We flew into LA, stayed there for a couple of days, drove out to Palm Springs and played PGA West Stadium and Nicklaus, then drove north and stopped at Hearst Castle; then drove along US1, stayed in Big Sur, then onto Monterrey and Carmel, played Cypress Point, Pebble Beach and Spyglass, then off to San Francisco for the trade show.
I wasn't into wine that much back then. If I made the trip today, I would probably give up a day of golf to go to Sonoma, Napa or Paso Robles. Still an amazing trip.
After a solid finish at PB yesterday, I played possibly the worst round of golf in my life at Cypress. But who cares...it was Cypress, and it was bucket list big time!
The club itself is so simple. Pro shop couldn't be 500 sq ft. Practice green and 1st tee are 20 steps away.
What an experience!

Yeah, we had lunch at Sticks this afternoon and watched the 1st tee box at Spanish Bay for 1 1/2 hours. Only 2 groups went out. I think a lot of peeps got word of the crap fairways and switched to Spy, Del Monte or wherever.

The most shocking thing about Pebble Beach is the 18th hole. Whenever they show it they show it from an overhead angle which makes the rock and the shoreline look much deeper than it is. From the tee it looks nice but not half as nice as it does on tv. The other thing that is weird is that of course during the tournament there are grandstands surrounding the green and it looks great. It is surprising playing it when there are no grandstands and seeing how flat and vast it is beside the green.
It isn't a bad looking hole by any stretch, but it for sure isn't the nicest hole on the course. 7 and 8 at Pebble Beach, 15 and 16 at Cypress Point are incredible and I loved the 3rd at Spyglass. Spyglass wasn't as visually stunning, but what a tough golf course.

Cross Monterey Bay, go to Santa Cruz and play Pasatiempo. Alistair McKenzie course. As is Cypress. Bobby Jones played in the opening day of Pasatiempo, and told Alistair McKenzie that he had some land in Georgia. He did, Fruitlands Nursery turned into Augusta National. McKenzie lived on the sixth fairway of Pasatiempo. Glad ya got to play Cypress Point, it's the Sistine Chapel of golf.

I've played Audubon and Galloway, one time I even snuck onto Ridgeway CC.

I used to cut the grass at Mirimichi. Played it once or twice if you want to call it that. Really more beer drinking than golfing.
