Birding/Nature Watching adds $250+ million dollars ANNUALLY to the Lower Rio Grande Valley, much of it centered along the Rio Grande itself, soon to be destroyed.

Heck of job, Trumpie - killing jobs for a wall that will do nothing.

Your premise is that a wall at a border will destroy the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge. Seems a bit of a stretch. Also, my guess is the wildlife won't notice one bit.

And are you saying that the financial impact of bird watching will be so impacted that it will somehow cost the economy more $$ and jobs than building the wall will create?

These are your arguments?

Stretch Armstrong much?

Just realism. Something lacking in Trumpsters.

Yes, it will destroy the refuge - high border wall, cleared space on either side, towers, lights all night. Most of the native habitat in the area is gone already.

And yes, without these refuges, the area is less appealing. And yes, nature travel contributes more to the economy than a one time border wall.

Half A Billion a year in nature watching in the Lower Rio Grande Valley

Just yesterday (or earlier today) you called us "Trumpies". I beg you pick a nickname and stick with it.

The USACE is one of the few gov't entities that actually gets things right IMHO. You've got to have a geotechnical engineering study performed. It will determine the foundation design.

Nope.

USACE is a mess. No different than the other agencies.
my experience with them was great. they made damn sure they got EXACTLY what taxpayers were paying for.

The lowest bidde
true. That's how almost all construction contracts are awarded. From a taxpayers perspective I appreciated the corp riding our butts. That's what they should be doing.

My experience, lowest bid gets thrown out quicker than the highest. I've never entertained those few looking for a lowball bid. Appreciate them telling me so I don't waste my time.

When I've had government show up on my jobs and try to tell me how to do them, I tell 'em to take a hike. I know my business. I tell them to inspect my final job and feel free to call me with any complaints then. I piss them off and am sure they look for things then. I don't give a damn. Never had a call. I know my business and have no need in anyone riding me. Nor will I tolerate it. Especially some government flunky that can't get a real job.

If you appreciate some government ****-up telling you how to do your job I don't know what to say.

We need a new immigration policy first. Preferably one that goes after the damned employers who keep hiring illegals. If they stop hiring them, they'll stop coming here in time.

We also need a path to citizenship for the ones here, and it doesn't have to be all of them. You can put qualifying factors on who becomes citizens and when. Get them on the legitimate payrolls and get them paying their required income taxes.

We are in total agreement on this issue. Like a lot of things government does...it puts a band aide on a problem instead of addressing the root of the problem. A wall is not necessary. Rational immigration policy is the answer.

USACE lets you do your job but they make sure everything is going according to spec. Nobody stood over my shoulder all day. In some cases they worked with me to help plan and coordinate work in the field. IMHO, they have very good QC measures. I didn't find it overbearing at all.

This was the Nashville District. I can't speak about all of the districts but I assume it was pretty standard operating procedure.

That makes me think it is all fabricated and the fencing is going up somewhere else.
I will wait for the photos of the fencing in the refuge area.

I live in the land of low bidders. I sell into municipal water wastewater plants. There are a bunch a freaking crooks in that particular industry.

Here's your rational "immigration plan"...They can get on this "path to citizenship" when every...single...person who is doing things the right way, i.e. the legal way, becomes a citizen and not a second sooner.

Lots of names apply. Same ones that were used to describe the Obama and Hillary blind loyalists all work.
