NDSU athletic director says Big Ten modifying FCS scheduling philosophy
http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4...philosophy

Quote:A Big Ten Conference mandate of not scheduling FCS football programs has been modified to put the Division I younger brothers back in the conversation again.

North Dakota State athletic director Matt Larsen said he's been told the new policy is a direct reflection of the nine-game Big Ten schedule. On years where a Big Ten team has four home league games, it will be allowed to put an FCS team on its slate.

Superpowers like Youngstown State, Howard, Norfolk State, Illinois State, Indiana State and Northern Iowa will soon be back on the schedule. Heck, bring on Maine, New Hampshire and Stony Brook while we're at it. 03-banghead

Oh, and screw you, ACCSEC!

I don't see the point of scheduling FCS rather than FBS. It is for an automatic win, right? It isn't that hard to find an FBS that will be a sacrificial lamb.

What did the ACC ever do to the Big Ten? It's not like they MADE you take Maryland...

Nah ... we're just making fun of the ACC and their over-reliance on FCS foes for OOC games.

In 2017:

2 out of 14 B1G teams play an FCS foe.
13 out of 14 ACC teams play an FCS foe.

As a fan of an ACC team, how can you defend that?

I don't have a big problem with a regional FCS game.

Maryland vs Towson - as is occurring in 2017 - that's fine. Towson's like 20 miles from College Park. Towson made the 2013 FCS title game also, so Maryland wasn't "FCS dumpster diving" in scheduling this one either.

Games like Purdue vs Indiana State, Iowa vs Northern Iowa, and Minnesota vs. North Dakota State also make some sense.

Games like Rutgers vs. Morgan State, though? Come on Rutgers. That's pathetic.

But wait, there's more! The ACC only plays eight conference games and one P5 opponent non-conference for a total of nine while the Big Ten schools are mandated a minimum of 10 with a select few G5 schools counting as P5 worthy.

ACC and Big Ten schedules are a lot more alike than you must think. While it may not be an official requirement to play a 10th P5 opponent, consider...

Clemson, Duke, FSU, Ga Tech, Louisville, UNC, NC State, and Pitt all play 10 P5 opponents this year.

BC only plays 9 true P5 opponents, but they were approved to play UConn (sound familiar?). UVA plays 9 P5s plus Boise State.

Miami, Syracuse, Va Tech and Wake Forest all play only 9 P5s (as required by the ACC) this season. I know in the case of Va Tech that will go up to 10 P5s starting in 2020.

Plus - let's be honest - some of the MAC teams are so weak as to be functionally equivalent to FCS teams.

Love those MEAC bands though.
