In CAA games, it's worked terrifically. But it's also system that didn't quite work at the next level. Cacok got swallowed up in the post against both Duke and UVA. The minute Gettys, a True Center, got into foul trouble and had to come out, we got exposed there (as much as people complained about him, we had a halftime lead over Duke with him getting serious minutes). And our defensive efficiency wasn't great in either contest.
Wow, pretty much my very complaint with Keatts teams, and i got jumped on for it here by many, including you if i'm not mistaken! Obviously, i agree b04-rock

RE: Starting lineup/Playing Time?
I wouldn't say that Cacok was swallowed up in the post, Cacok had little help inside due to style of play and overall lack of top flight D-they won because they were incredibly gifted and the coach let them go (no problem with that). Devonte was killing Salt out there for UVa. The reason UVa won is because UNCW didn't play a lick of defense and that kid off the bench went nuts. UNCW really should have won that game. And I'm not necessarily blaming the system either. It was a case that Chris Flemmings had to play the 4 (actually defended pretty well btw for his size/great all around player) instead of 3 due to having to get Bryce out there at 3 with a knock down guy at 2.

Getting to this year....does it matter who you call what in the post? You are who you guard. We will see. Cacok can guard a 4 or 5. And, is much more capable of making plays than you think. Think CAA final when he drove the baseline and dished to a cutting Bryce. If they don't get injured, they will win games and compete okay in the top 4 or top 5 provided they defend and can get Fornes, Cacok and 1 or 2 more guys (thinking Talley for sure) than can get double figures. Scoring will be the challenge this year. The following year should be rock and roll again perhaps.

RE: Starting lineup/Playing Time?
To me the ideal team is one that doesn't matter who starts, but who finishes. If we play fast like coach McGrath says, it won't matter. There will be plenty of playing time for those that don't start. I also like looking at how we match up against our opponents and what fives play best together. We don't won't to miss a beat when we do sub. Starting is more of an ego thing. And some players are better at subbing in than others. I'm sure that will be a factor as long as we are deep enough.

They lost because UVa was better than them in the backcourt. Perrantes beat them like a drum off the dribble at will. Just a better player then anything UNCW had.

Shouldn't you be posting hot takes like these at PackPride.com?

Tony Bennett went in with a game plan for UVa, and Keatts went in with one for UNCW. Keatts's plan was better. Then Bennett threw out his plan and improvised a strategy and lineup that they literally had never practiced before. Keatts - who apparently never heard of this thing they call "zone defense" - stuck with "Plan A", and UNCW lost.

Okay , Coach Mullet, had you been Keatts how would you have adjusted your game plan when Perrantes 'beat them like a drum of the dribble'?

Keatts would not play zone even if he knew it would win the game for him-stubborn ass man! UNCW made some unreal shots to get ahead but it's really hard to hit 35 footer all game . Bryan was also a disaster waiting to happen and he did.

UNCW was up by 18 or 20 points in that game. It's not suprising to me when Cacok is dunking all over you and you have knock down 3 ball artists. C'mon Jumpin, I love reading your takes 99% of the time, but that was a bit harsh. I do agree that they should have mixed in some zone looks and marked the guy with the man bun and Perentes! The overall D wasn't on point in that game.

The overall Halfcourt D wasn't on point all year. Many of us said it would bite us in the arse all year, and it did! You can out athletic mid majors with a full court press. That doesn't work against high majors, it just doesn't at least not with the level of guys we typically get. Unfortunately i agree with Mullet in the fact that he had Zero ability to adjust to his game plan. We saw that with Chuck all year. But, he's gone now, he's busy up in Raleigh recruiting our guys.
