Group of 5 bowl records vs. G5 foes last 3 years: C-USA 10-4 (.714), MW 9-4 (.692), SB 7-6 (.538), MAC 5-10 (.333), AAC 1-8 (.111). Power 6?

Ouch.

Yeah it has been atrocious. There have been several legitimate reasons (ie. coaches departing for other gigs, tougher matchups, etc.) but the AAC needs to improve in this area asap.

While I am commenting on this tweet, McMurphy has a bizarre obsession/hatred of the AAC. He has trolled several AAC fan bases in the past, constantly makes snarky comments about the conference/member schools and has constantly pointed the negative without ever interjecting anything positive. I realize the above stat is objective material, but if you ever read a McMurphy tweet about the conference that is more subjective, take it with a grain of salt.

Record speaks for itself, I can see why Mc Murphy has an obsession/hatred of the AAC if more AAC fans are like some of the posters here: Myopic, deluded and obsessed.

Obsessed would definitely describe the non-AAC fans like yourself who continually post about this subject.

Definitely this. I have no idea why some random person out in the middle of BFG who roots for Idaho State cares about AAC marketing campaigns.

Ouch.

For the logical thinkers... here is the explanation. First of all... he selects out a subset of games (9 games) to support his already-formed conclusion. Why not list (or include) the regular season stats? Because the AAC did very well there against the G5. This is an example of cherry picking data to support your narrative...

Further, if the goal is to evaluate the AAC as a 'P' conference... how about the stats against the P5? Can't use that, as the AAC clearly had the most success of the 'G5' against the P5... Why not NY bowls? The AAC made and won 2...

OK, I see your point, but I think you are missing the context of his comments. That context is the one-sided propaganda that Aresco has promulgated via the "P6" campaign. You take McC to task for cherry-picking anti-AAC data, but that's all Aresco ever does in the other direction - he goes on and on about our regular season record vs other G5 and our 2-0 record in NY6 bowls but routinely ignores what McC mentions here, our bowl record vs the G5.

Bottom line: when the media narrative so far has been one sided and cherry picked, as it has with Aresco, it's perfectly reasonable for someone else to respond with criticism that highlights/slants towards the other side. Otherwise, if critics are compelled to be what Aresco isn't, even-handed, what the narrative becomes is one that is one-sided on one hand, even-handed on the other, which makes the total narrative biased in favor of the original one-handed perspective.

Your discussion of our record here is itself pretty even-handed, meaning it's not very Aresco-like, LOL. You acknowledge our lousy bowl record while also acknowledging the positive aspects of our overall record, such as regular season success vs the G5 and NY6 bowl success. Your only real exaggeration is saying the AAC has had 'tremendous success' or somesuch vs the P5, when our overall record, regular season and bowls, is 30-60, not very good.

But your criticism of the tweeter lacks context, Aresco context. 07-coffee3

Holy cow. Realize the difference between a commissioner and a journalist? One is SUPPOSED TO BE BIASED. It's his JOB. The other is SUPPOSED TO BE UNBIASED.

A Commissioner is supposed to advocate for the conference, trumpet it successes, downplay any shortcomings.

A journalist who is biased, and obviously lets that color his/her interpretations and reporting, or even works advocated for/against a conference, is NOT being a good journalist. (I get it's opinion journalism... just saying...)

It's downright comical that anyone is surprised, or even offended, that Aresco is doing his job.

FWIW, fans are also supposed to be biased, and it's obvious who what team or conference someone REALLY supports... despite what they claim online... For example, if someone claimed to be a fan of the AAC, yet continuously made negative comments online... 03-lmfao

Guys...let this die. Despite the marketing the AAC is trying to do, they are going to be in the G5 for a very long time. From the MW Football media days, a question was asking to the MW Commissioner about the P6 campaign and he isn't worried about it or have any ill will to the AAC.
FYI: He did state in order to become an autonomous conference, legislation has to be submitted. However, that legislation must be submitted by a P5 conference to request a conference be a P6 and share more of their money with the conference.....so basically it's not going to happen.

journalist - An extinct job the existed until the late 1980's. The journalist has been replaced by commentators who now act if they were unbiased journalists but write based upon their bias. 03-puke

I think you are missing what the AAC is trying to do out of envy. I don't believe their goal is to make as much money as P5 teams right now. They are campaigning to argue that they can equally compete with the five best conferences given an equal chance. Which is a true statement in my opinion.

I think the average AAC program could compete fairly with teams like Oregon State, Iowa State, Kansas, etc. And extremely good AAC teams can compete with teams like Florida State.

The money thing just will never happen. Even the so called "Power teams" are just leeches that siphon of the real power programs like USC, Oho State, Michigan, Alabama, Texas, etc.

You missed the point entirely: Nobody is saying that Aresco is supposed to be unbiased, and i didn't say that in the post you replied to. Obviously, since the AAC is paying his salary, he's supposed to be an advocate for the AAC.

But my point was that given that someone, Aresco, is putting a one-sided argument out there about the AAC being Power-Worthy (which, since it's his job to do that, is fine), then it is fair and reasonable for a journalist to make the counter-argument. That's not being "biased", it's correcting what otherwise would be a one-sided narrative.

As for your jab at end, I've always been up-front: I support USF, not the AAC. I want USF out of the AAC as soon as possible, in to a real Power conference, you know, one that has a $25m media deal and a guaranteed NY6 spot, not a fake Power conference reduced to putting stickers on our helmets. That said, I've also said good things about the AAC, namely that as long as we're stuck outside the power zone, the AAC is the best place for us to be, and that I've found AAC football to be enjoyable. I've criticized Aresco frequently, but Aresco isn't the AAC, contrary to what many seem to thing.

Well, going 1-8 against other G5 teams in bowls doesn't exactly State their case.

lol. Thats not true. It was created by the NCAA. The "autonomous conferece" is an NCAA designation. It has absolutely nothing to do with the playoff, the playoff money, or any of the major bowl games. Its a legislative designation. Unless something has changed recently, the NCAA has never created any path to become an autonomous conference. That has to be done at some point because it will eventually become an issue. Just as the NCAA has created the criteria to move from D2 to D1, there will eventually have to be similar legislative path to the autonomous designation.

It was NCAA legislation that created "equity conferences"-Big 12, ACC, SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, Big East, CUSA and WAC. These 8 were given equal votes. The MAC and Big West got half as many votes. When the WAC split, the WAC and MWC split their votes in half.

That's obsolete. In the new structure, P5 conferences have 2 votes each, G5 conferences have 1 vote each, FCS conferences share 10 votes and non-football conferences share 10 votes. (There's a rotation for who fills the 20 non-FBS seats).
