Jans bring in a good recruit from the JC ranks...

Jeff Mailhot Bio The last name is pronounced MY-it.

Jans still needs to hire one more Assistant Coach and a Director of Basketball Operation to finalize his staff.

I'm curious why his staff isn't filled yet? Weir was hired a week before and had his staff built a month ago.

Contracts barely expired so he had to wait to make hires. Whoever wants to explain more in detail be my guest. There isn't any other reason.

It SEEMS that unless someone is being fired, all DI collegiate stuff like this keys off July 1, the fiscal year. Like Dancing said, I'm sure that's the date on most all contracts.

Weir had nearly a complete staff from day one. Weir agreed to retain one of Neal's assistants (Chris Harriman) since he was still under contract. Then Weir brought Hsu and Meyer over from NMSU once we sorted out our coaching situation. He only needed to hire one coach when he first arrived at UNM. Many thought he would hire Bopp but he hired Jerome Robinson away from St Bonaventure. Now that Hsu bailed on Weir maybe he will hire Bopp now.

Keep in mind, when Weir took over as Head Coach at NMSU, he didn't hire Marc Hsu away from CSUB until August of last year. Jan 2017 recruiting class is all but complete. He can afford to be selective with his staff. Mailhot is a good hire.

It's a very good hire. Maybe he'll be able to re-recruit LJ back to NMSU.
