RE: Question for UTEP people.
our last trip to El Paso we drove over to White Sands, up to Alamogordo, back over through Cloudcroft and down to Carlsbad in time to see the evening bat exodus. Cattleman's is a must do meal a full day but a fun one. the drive through the Lincoln National Forest was spectacular

https://www.expedia.com/Ciudad-Juarez-Ho...exp_pg=HSR

Well either there or the Hotel Correo...can't beat $8 a night :) just joking about that but if you don't need a passport I will probably stay at the one I linked to

Long gone are the days of simply saying "American" and being able to return to the states. You can cross over into Juarez without a passport but if you want to return to America you will need to show it at the border. It's not too bad but I wouldn't call it safe either. There's a lot of night entertainment around that area. It tends to draw individuals from the underworld. The city has spent the better part of the last seven years ranked as one of the most dangerous cities in the world. During the day time it's ok but at night it can get scary. 9 out of 10 times nothing will happen. Why risk that one time something could happen? If I were you I would go visit in the morning and be back in El Paso by three or four. The sun does set around six in October. If you want to live on the edge spend the night.

Other way around JCMiner, You are suppose to have a passport to cross into Mexico but coming back Border Patrol will not denied access back to any American.

Had a spur of the moment trip to Tijuana from San Diego, I ask the Border Patrol if would be able to come back without passport and he said that they will not denied any passage back to America from anyone they deem to be American even without any ID. I told I had my drivers License, he said you are golden.

He did said Mexico can refuse you passage so when we got to the Mexican station, they took our Driver License and we had to speak to a lady in the back of the station guarded by Mexican border patrol with a M16. She ask what we were going to be doing, (sightseeing taking pictures), she then told us we could go but next time we needed our passports. Maybe a 5 minute process.

When we got back to the US crossing station, They asked what we bought and told us to have a good day

How long ago was this? Maybe it's because I'm brown but every time I've returned from Mexico the border patrol agents have asked for my passport to return to the USA. About eight years ago all I needed to say was American but that changed.

A few months ago. They cannot denied access to anyone they deem American even without a ID. That is what the Agent at the Tijuana crossing told us. All we had were our driver licenses

I guess the question is, what criteria do they use to determine if someone is American? Might help explain the situation.

RE: Question for UTEP people.
My wife was detained for over two hours when she was young (late 1980's), after a mission trip in Ciudad Juarez. She had yet to obtain a social security number, which I think the powers-that-be used at the time.

She had been out in the sun and very dark (native American ancestry), but the only Spanish words she knew at the time were "Taco" and "Bell" 04-cheers

I'm bumping this up for me to find easy and if WKUYG wants to check out the food suggestions again like I just did.

A question for YG. What are you doing for tickets. I see them on ticketmaster of 10 bucks or should I try to hit up HAF for some player tickets. They've helped me out with these in the past.

Right now it's iffy on me making this trip. Hard sitting for a Western football game without getting up and walking during every dead ball. But if I go I will just get them at the gate. I just sent Larry Cash a email asking what section Western will be in. But right now I don't think I can do the drive. Wont know for sure till Monday. The bad thing...

I had 6 free nights of rooms built up through Expedia that I booked two weeks ago...I will lose if we can't use them. This will be the first game I missed being there in person in 5 years. Well other than the Bahama bowl and I couldn't get a passport in time.

I hate hearing that amigo. Enjoyed sitting with you at Germain Arena watching Western hoops in Estero Florida during Ray's last year. And that will suck on losing those rooms.

Right now I have a room for the esposa and I at the Hilton Gardens on UTEP campus for Friday and Saturday night. Gonna drive up from Kerrville area on Friday. Probably hit up that Cattleman's restaraunt Friday evening.

Western sent out an email. They're having a small WKU Alumni Tailgating at a place called Crawdaddy's Bar and Grill. I looked it up on Google Maps and it's easily walking distance from the hotel. Set up from 4:30 to 6:30. We'll probably hit that up before the game. I think I'm going to see if HAF can hook me up with some player tickets for the game. They've done it in the past. No way all of our players have folks coming to El Paso.

I found out at our normal tailgating spot one of the guys there is going. Taking his son to visit the AFA and then coming down for the game. So I will know someone else out there. Hope you make it too.

Beed...

I know you had plans on driving over to Las Vegas didn't know if before or after the game. I know country is not your thing but you do love music. Just saw where 20 are dead and bunch more shot at a music Festival in Las Vegas.

So check in when you can. I'm not much of a country music fan but my wife and sister in law are. My original plans would have put us in Vegas for this.

BTW my trip is off for sure don't want to chance the drive with the way my back is acting up then screw up football and basketball season. Played full court basketball about a month ago, I mess it up. Should have stuck with halfcourt.

Wanted to visit out west but maybe I get to do the basketball trip this winter to UTEP. Afraid this 4500 drive would put me out of action for the ODU trip and Thanksgiving vacation to Ft Lauderdale and Miami for the FIU game..

Thanks for the heads up amigo. I like country as long as it's old country or some of what I consider this new contingent of outlaw country coming up. Lot of good stuff out there. My heart breaks for everyone last night. I just go into denial sometimes. This could happen to any of us in any venue. You can't stop crazy.

We're having a great time but we won't head up that way until after the UTEP game. Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam and one night in Vegas was a possible. Probably not now. After Hoover will head on out to LA.

I'm loving this trip so far. Friday night in Howe Texas and caught the local high school game. Howe vs. Caddo Mills. Small town Texas Friday night lights. Loved it. My wife's cousin lives in Georgetown and we've been here since Saturday. Great time so far. We head to the hill country tomorrow for 3 days.

I hate you're not making it. I'll maybe catch up with you on a Florida trip once you get healed up.

Right now I'm predicting UTEP gets the 'fired coach' bump and plays all out and knocks off our 75 year old coach. I'm coming for the scenery. Not the win.

RE: Question for UTEP people.
Any UTEP posters tailgating today? What time and where? I might tour the area pregame.

Lots o' UTEP folks staying in the hotel for homecoming. I honestly didn't know it was homecoming weekend.
