… MISSION POSSIBLE …


Tom Cruise seems to get credit for resurrecting the Mission Impossible series. Since 1996, Cruise has starred in 5 films that have grossed $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

At the beginning of each movie, Cruise (as Ethan Hunt) is presented with an “impossible” mission. Then along with a crack team of specialists, and against all odds, and with heavy doses of ingenuity, creativity and old-fashioned problem-solving skills, Cruise makes the mission impossible “possible.”

He gets the job done! Saves the day! Rescues humanity! Restores order! All things good!

I just love the thought of making our Mission possible! Our mission reads as follows:

- In alignment with the educational mission of the University of Southern Mississippi –

- We guide and support our Student-Athletes in the pursuit of excellence – academically, athletically and personally.

- We serve as ambassadors and advocates for our Department of Athletics and the University.

That mission gets me excited each and every time I read it. And each day, along with our professional staff and coaches, we work diligently to transform the lives of 350 Student-Athletes, and promote the wellbeing of this University.

At times, we face an array of distracting and disruptive influences (think of safety and health issues, think of compliance issues, think of financial challenges, and the like). Yet we gladly and willingly accept our mission.

At Southern Miss Athletics, we are not saving the world. We are building the world, making this a better place to live – one Student-Athlete at a time! We are honored to serve as we transform the lives of our Student-Athletes.

Mission Possible! That’s OUR job.

We love our jobs.

Hell, that's no "mission". For the 8,000 time.....Just get us out of this stupid ass conference, and all this other ancillary crap will take care of itself.

he should really not say anything unless it relates to either:
A)scheduling a big opponent or
B)something that defines our exit strategy from this colon.....I mean conference.

The problem there is getting out of this conference will be the result of a better financial standing, not the cause of it. Get the scholarships covered by the EC, and more money can be spent towards the things that need to happen to get us TFO.

That said, explaining that fact to everybody in a direct manner would be a better sales pitch than the simple "hep the po and needy chillren" bit.

this guy is terrible. what did USM do to deserve this clown show its stuck in?

It's like they are daring us to stick around and support this chit-show. I'm not sure I understand why Hopson and/or Berry stick around for this. It's honestly got to be better to move to another program at this point. I'm beginning to think that UAB may be more attractive.

Honestly, Berry and Hopson are both pretty content with being here. They like it here. And I've heard from a good source that Gilbert is (so far) looking to be more proactive about getting things done.

What "things" exactly?

He's working with a local food vendor to ensure that the nacho cheese will not be cold @ concession stand. It might not seem like much to some of you, but it really is a big deal to me and all nacho lovers.

I just emailed the AD and asked what can be done to bring back the bleedin' weenies.
