Quote:Baseball Picked Fifth in C-USA Coaches Preseason Poll
Travis Tully Named to All-Conference Team as Outfielder

Jan. 19, 2005

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team was picked to finish fifth in the 2005 Conference USA Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll.

Individually, junior outfielder Travis Tully was chosen as a member of the 13-man Preseason All-Conference Team.

A year ago, Tully was named to the All-C-USA Second Team after batting .308 with 23 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. The Richmond, Texas, native was the only Cougar to play in and start all 59 games and enjoyed a 20-game hitting streak midway through the year, the fourth longest in school history.

Tulane was a unanimous selection by the league's 12 coaches as the preseason favorite. TCU placed second in the poll with East Carolina and Southern Miss rounding out the Top Five.

Following the Cougars, USF entered the poll at No. 6 and was followed by Louisville, UAB, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Memphis and Saint Louis.

Tulane's Brian Bogusevic was named the Preseason Player of the Year, while Southern Miss righthander Patrick Ezell was tabbed the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

The Cougars open their 2005 season Feb. 11-13 when they compete at the Minute Maid Park College Classic in Houston.

Prior to the season opener, the Cougar Baseball team will host a variety of preseason events, including the program's annual preseason banquet at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 29 at the UH Hilton.

The Cougars also will host the Sterling Bank Silver Glove Series Luncheon at noon, Feb. 7 in the Great Hall of the Athletics/Alumni Center. That event serves as the kickoff for the annual Sterling Bank Silver Glove Series between UH and crosstown rival Rice.
