Who would ever thought this when we saw him play in front of 750 fans at the Convo?

If we have mediocre players who become successful after college or after transferring to another school, what does this say about our coaching staff?

Basketball Coaching staff= Trash, lol. Congrats Nader! He's come a long way since his knucklehead ways at NIU.

I don't blame our coaches completely, he was one of the most selfish non-team players to ever play at NIU. Iowa State was a good fit for him, did not seem like much structure with coaching, just a let it rip philosophy there.

Really? You are going to bash a former NIU player who is now playing in the NBA instead of the coaching staff?

The NIU coaching staff definitely gets some credit in a players development. It's not like Nader didn't get coaching and opportunity to develop as a player while at NIU. Monty has continually brought guys with a great deal of potential talent here. They have not won or stuck around but that's never been entirely Monty's fault

RedandBlack, numerous times I sat 1 to 2 rows behind the NIU bench and saw his antics first hand, he pouted like a baby. It was disgusting to watch. He basically took down his availability right in the middle of a game @ UIC. I couldn't believe it. I wish him luck but his attitude at NIU was beyond appalling.

Wonder if his contract is guaranteed or if it is contingent on his making the team.
I generally root for the success of all current or former Huskies but it is tough to get behind this guy.

I also think that Monty has not been successful yet with the program. I hope that he is learning on the job and that things start to improve soon. Otherwise it is time to thank him for his efforts and to give someone else a chance.

Comparing turnaround times for college football vs college basketball is a joke. There are also a million other variables to consider. Monty and his teams have been beyond disappointing. If we had any money or an AD that had any interest in making his own hires then he'd be gone.

6 years into the Novak era was highly apparent NIU football was headed into a very good direction. 6 years into the Coach Montgomery era, NIU is headed nowhere but the bottom of the MAC. Cagey, your eternal blind homerism is appreciated, but its certainly not based on any reality. NIU basketball is in serious trouble right now, and Coach Monty is running out of time.

3 years into Monty's tenure there was a ray of hope. There have been major steps backward since then. Last year was a train wreck.

Novak was very successful in replacing a culture and the arrow was pointing way up. Monty has replaced the culture he was given, but the new culture has just been the wrong culture. Some viable talent, but just a bad mix. This is not a one and done team---six years in, how many seniors are on the roster???

Did you even call for Patton's head?
Why did you stop with a 5 year winning percentage. How was Novak after year 6?
Better than Montgomery? Football turn around involves 75 players not 10 for Basketball.

RE: Report: Celtics Sign Nader to 4-Year Deal
No, I didn't call for Patton's head...I leave that for all the experts. And, being realistic, NIU could never really afford to buy big contracts out so I would have rather had the $375,000 and waited a year.

I stopped at 5 years cuz that was as far as the online basketball record book went with MM.....and was too lazy to do the math. You can check the math but I think JN was 20-46 for a winning percentage of 30% after 6 years compared to MM who is 75-189 about 40%. All time NIU is about 49% so I am not sure where the expectation for much above that comes from. A year ago, when the Huskies had a winning percentage of .618, folks still whined and complained..

And no, it is not necessarily easier to turn around a basketball program than a football program (See the boat rowers up north). There are over 1,000,000 high school football players and 115 BCS college teams who give 85 scholarships each....In basketball, there are 535,000 high school players that the 351 D1 schools can give 13 scholarships each. Doesn't seem like the odds favor basketball and, certainly, as we have seen, one stud qb can turn around a football program quite quickly.
