Tulsa has a football attendance problem. I was surprised at the lack of people at the game last year. I have been hard on Tulsa in the past a laughing hysterically about Tulsane. Tulsa has separated itself from Tulane, but in order to take the next step must consider attendance.

Honest question: Did you all really think Tulsa and Tulane were on the same level? No offense to Tulane, but we've generally had the upper hand against them athletically.

Yes, my only understanding of Tulsa was from the first couple of years of league play.

We're 11-2 against them... and one of those losses came in 1968.

And the other came in the first 2 years of AAC play. So I guess it's understandable to have seen us on the same level. Historically we've dominated them though.

Correction: It was our last year in CUSA they beat us.

Basketball, yes. Football, we're on the right track. Not worried about that.

Basketball attendance should be better for the best home schedule in years (assuming the team is better as well).

Speaking of batting... we need to make a change in baseball, but when we hired Butler, he was the obvious choice. It turned out to be a bum hire and fans complain about the size of his guaranteed contract, but a coaching prospect like Butler wouldn't have come to WSU following the firing of the winningest coach in NCAA history without job security. He gets one more year, then we have another shot at hiring a coach worthy of the program's tradition.

My guess is really, really awful. But I'm an unabashed Butler-hater. I think he should have been fired after Year 3. I think it's beyond embarrassing that he wasn't fired after year 4. Not competing for championships in MVC baseball means we are going to get steamrolled in the AAC. I just hope it's bad enough that not changing coaches becomes untenable.

Shocker fans have become widely pessimistic about baseball. Our program has dug its heels into the pooper.

Completely overhaul MBB and make it a priority as important as football.
Show some serious improvement in football.

Longer term I'd say rework OOC football scheduling to make it more balanced and reasonable. 1 FCS, 1 G5, 1 mid level P5, 1 major P5.

Memphis needs to fix basketball. Unlike some, I'm not willing to give up on Tubby . . . . yet. My rose-colored glasses say that this year will be better in bball than many think.

Football couldn't be better. And this year should see a record sale of season tickets. I predict football attendance will rival long-time leader ECU.

The university as a whole --- $500 million in academic and capital infrastructure improvement over the next 5 years is in the pipeline.

add FB attendance and season ticket sales.

Since McKie was hired I think BB recruiting has improved a lot.

Our AD is killing it but he's gonna need another two years to get fundraising where it needs to be and all the culture to be on par with the a true D1 athletic department.

RE: AAC Member Shortcomings & How to Fix Them
SMU's inherent problem, and it's been this way since the 1950's or so, is that it's a small school swallowed up by one of the most insane sports cities in the country. Unlike a lot of schools in our conference SMU is no higher than 10th in our home market. Since our graduates, who come from all over the country as students and then leave as alumni, don't stay in Dallas we have to find a way to tap into the millions of people who leave in the Metroplex in order to start to fill Ford on a regular basis. Winning would help, of course, and I think better home scheduling, but we have to find some way to get more people into Ford.

Also, the next football coaching hiring will be key. I'm getting flak from Mustang fans for suggesting that Morris will be poached after this season by either A&M or Texas Tech, but the reality is that if he continues as he should and the win totals continue to go up he is going to get more job offers - Baylor has already tried to take him.

There's a plan in place for an IPF, we have reached new highs in basketball, and all in all it's a good time to be a Mustang - gotta keep the momentum going.

USF
1. Get Tampa and nearby communities to become bigger supporters of USF in attendance and donations. It has improved under new AD but not where it should be. Wasted years under old AD which was basically getting money while retired.

2. Basketball must be fixed. I like our new hire and what he has done but it will take at least three years to see results. Right now the sport doesn't exist at USF

3. Stadium- football drives the bus in our state, so we must continue to win and use that momentum to create a bigger relationship between the sport and the campus.
