RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
Agree. Had Nebraska executed easy catches, they would have beaten us. I don't think going deep a few times and giving Huff more opportunities is that big of a risk. I'd also like to see Santa scramble more not to buy time but to gain first downs. He's a terrific runner. I agree with the less designed runs for the QB, but he seems to do a good job of sliding when scrambling.

I thought that NIU turnover gave Nebraska life they shouldn't have had too. Some things could have been improved on both sides. Best play of the game was that quick hitter to Blake on the play-action. That type of play is something NIU needs to do a whole lot more, use the middle of the field.

RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
It's college football: Very difficult to play a clean game. Even good NFL teams make mistakes, that's why I'm not mad about the turnover. If we average one turnover per game we will win a bunch of games. We did have success with seam passes to Wiemann last year that we are not running this year and I would like to see more rpo plays that would minimize big hit risks to the QB and utilize Santa's running ability. I would also like to see a lot more play action passes. I don't know what our coaches have against play action pass but we don't run it at all. I only saw a handful last year and don't remember any this year. I know we haven't had much of a running threat the last couple years but we have one now and the play action will open things up big time.

This board would be really boring if that were true...

"Paralysis by analysis" , the tendency to over analyze. This was not a Maction game. NIU played not to lose and guess what....we didn't lose. 4 and 1 against the B10 since 2013, and losing to #1 the OSU 20-13.....folks, we have us a football program. Yes, it needs some refinement, some work, but this team is for real.
Whether this recent success will continue, I don't know. We may get lit up by SDSU, but I expected to get walloped by Nebraska, too.

If the weather is not too hot, SDSU is still undefeated, and ranked, it should be a good crowd. I talked to the NIU Alumni Association and there is not an organized tailgate or tent for NIU. They are having a happy hour before the game at a local bar in the Gas Lamp area.

The Alumni Association is having a pregame event at the stadium on game day as well as a Happy Hour event on Thursday evening. Check out the NIU Alumni Association website for details.

interesting, not what they told me over the phone

We are not getting lit up by SDSU. Not the way our defense is playing. Our coaches need to utilize our weapons on offense. The way Huff is running the play action should open up a lot of opportunities. We need to take advantage. All the pieces are there. Santa should play with a lot of poise and confidence and Huff should be chomping at the bit to finally have the support of the coaching staff. Hopefully we will see all this come to fruition in two weeks.

RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
I don't know or really remember when Lynch was a red shirt soph. playing behind Harnish. I do recall he only played in mop games against second stringers.....

I don't remember watching him and saying wow, he has a great arm. Maybe they didn't use a lot of pass plays during mop up. Regardless, I do seem to recall that he needed to work on throwing the ball more accurately. He did get better along with better receivers. Obviously.

Anyway, I see Santa being a little different, but also a red shirt soph who is starting. I expect his arm will get better the more he plays. If not, he wont play much later on.

Regardless, Santa played well enough for us to not lose last weeks game. This week, we need him to not turn the ball over and hit 55-60 percent of his passes. He needs to play well enough for SDSU to respect the pass. That will open up the run for Huff. Huff is playing well!

I believe our D can keep us in the game, but we will have to score more than 7 offensive points to even be in this game at the end.

I hope we are in the game going into the 4th quarter. I think our D will hold them to 24 points. But, can we score 25? That is the question.

RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
This week we (Aztecs) play the "Boy Scouts" of Air Force (those ex military will truly appreciate the slang).

They ALWAYS play us tough yet Rocky our HC was an Option QB in college and he typically has us ready for the Option. Concern is a let down as we played AssU and Stanford (AssU was not as close as the score indicated) Stanford was a quality win. Thus the concern.

Very happy you guys took it to NU. It only benefits both of our programs as are our game draws near.

AF will be a B...h of a game and won't be overly surprised if we have a let down. That said, should we win, we will have knocked off 3 teams (probably san Boise) that will be the toughest (besides NIU) remaining on our schedule. We ALWAYS lose 1-2 we have no business losing (see S.Alabama last year and CSU) so yes a little "Itchy" about tomorrow's game.

Enjoyed my time last year in DeKalb, if I can answer any questions about what to do, where to tailgate whatever- truly available.

All the best and Go Huskies (this weekend!)

Thanks for the nice post McQuervo. Where's a good place to set up an NIU friendly tailgate at Qualcomm? I'll be bringing several younger kids so keep that in mind. Beat Air Force! Thanks.

Good to hear from you McQuervo. Just hoping for a good game when we head to San Diego. If the defense comes to play again and the offense figures things out, it should be very interesting.

Good luck against Air Force. And glad we could help out your strength of schedule by beating Nebraska. That's what we're here for. 03-drunk

Next to us in B2 is the "Show" you may have heard of that group at our Basketball games. They dress up (BYU game with white shirts black ties and bicycle helmets) and hold big head signs and other crazy actions. They always start the "I Believe" chant and provide heinous entertainment.

Additionally there is the Aztec Game day adventure which will have food and several micro breweries and things for the kids to play on. Fee is something like $10 per person and well worth it. That section is west of B2 and if your kids are under 10 I would strongly recommend a visit as the beer in OUTSTANDING. Also yes they sell beer in Qualcomm. I recommend "Burro'ing" in a water bottle full of your favorite "Juice" as the drinks/beer is quite expensive inside the stadium.

Saw a kid in HSC yesterday with a Utah State t-shirt. I had to restrain myself from beating him.

Got the Diesel memorial flyers from HFA today. If anyone would like to help pass them out, LMK. I will try to get to B2 before the game, but I can't promise anything, as I will be herding Mr. MissionFan and MissionFan Junior (who is well over the age of 10...21+++).
