Head over to the Aztec Village- pay the $10. and have a blast.

AF game-if you stayed up long enough to watch it you will have seen our O inept in the first half and come alive (a bit) in the second half. Our D is stellar.

Injury wise we are in good shape with one of our star DL's coming back this week.

Will post a couple of links yet suggest you google San Diego Union Tribune for daily updates.
It seems everyone on here thinks the SDSU offense is what we have to be worried about. If it's your D, this could make for a very interesting game.

Our Defense is certainly the strength of the team. Over the past two seasons, we have had 51 INTs, and have had a ridiculously positive TO margin.

My biggest concern is your Defense creating TOs, and us getting down early. We have played from behind a lot over the past two years, and have always come back for the most part. However, our offense is not designed to be rushed.

RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
this game will be a good one. SDSU is a very quality opponent. So is NIU. I predict the Aztecs will get a heavy dose of what I like to call "Dekalb Diesel" ... power running game. Our offensive line is big and strong. Huff is a powerful runner. Our TEs are big and good blockers as well. Play good defense, create a turnover or two, protect the ball, and run the ball on them and make enough plays in the air and our Huskies very well could win this game 24-21. It'll be a close game, but absolutely winnable.

go Huskies!!!

going to have to score real points in this game. i know our Defense is great, but their RB is too good not to get 1 or 2 big plays. Besides one long throw vs Nebraska, Santa didn't look good. He needs to make some big throws, and Huff will again need to have some big runs. SDSU's offense is so much better than Nebraska's.

SDSU is ranked very low in offense. Lower than Nebraska. 75th in scoring and 88th in yards. Obviously a good run game, but one of the worst passing games.
Yeah, besides the NIU game Nebraska's offense has been fairly productive. A lot of turnovers which is obviously not good, but they've put up points.

Looking at yardage and points stats can be misleading. It is affected by the number of possessions. The Aztecs run the ball a lot reducing possessions. Example: Stanford had only 4 possessions in the 2nd half against the Aztecs. That is further shown by time of possession in that game: Aztecs 41:14 Stanford 18:46. The Aztecs offense (measured correctly) is very good.

"One of the worst passing games", maybe by yards gained, but our QB is ranked #39 in the NCAA in QB Rating. Against AFA (after the rain) he was 10-13 for 180. The Aztecs prefer to run until 8 are in the box. They run power football unlike 95% of the teams in the NCAA. 2 Tightends and a fullback.

Don't think it is a bad offense and then judge your defense too harshly.

RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
We have talent on this team but we will need more than one score on offense if we want to compete. Also the defense cannot be on the field all night with a bunch of three and outs.

Here's hoping that Santa continues to improve and that we can move the ball and score some points. If so, we have a chance against a strong opponent.

Looking at your QB's stats, im going to say it's a pretty efficient passing game. I'm guessing it's a safer, short passing attack and maybe there are no big time play making WRs? Chapman is 77th in yards per attempt and the leader in receptions last season was your RB. He's the 2nd leading receiver this year.

This probably doesn't bode too well for us. SDSU only averages 14 pass attempts a game. Even in the few bad losses last year they didn't throw it much more. I.e. You can't force them out of their offensive philosophy. If they're going to run it 45 times, that takes our defensive playmakers, ends and corners, out of the equation. Unless we force 3rd and longs, this doesn't set up well. We are going to need some offense to keep this close.

I’d rather face a good running team than a pass heavy team, honestly. NIU has the front 7 to compete with just about anyone, and with Lurry and Smalls at corner they should be able to walk another guy down into the box.

True. We could go full commit to stop the run as BC did to us. But their QB seems to be able to make the throws needed to counter that. Bring Williams down in the box on 1st and 2nd otherwise.

A strong run team with a good defense is my fear for this team. I'd rather play Toledo who will throw 45 times because we will get sacks and a pick or 2. Those plays can change a game. Plus our offense can put up 28+ on Toledo. I'm not sure they can vs Addison. I'm really curious and hyped to see how they handle it this Saturday.

I think SDSU is probably better than Toledo, but I do think SDSU is a better matchup for NIU this year than Toledo. I just cannot see NIU being able to put nearly enough offense up to stay in a game vs Toledo. I do agree on Chapman, he doesn't beat himself, going to be very very tough. NIU will have to have one heck of an offensive performance vs a tremendous SDSU defense as the NIU defense will not be scoring 14 points this week.

I didn't see the Stanford game but watched the Air Force game. Chapman does look efficient. He isn't a statue like the Nebraska QB and hits the WRs when they're open. Though against Air Force it seemed the WRs were wide open most of the time.

God I hope we are light years better than Toledo (no offense but really?).

Our QB is efficient and very bright- rarely makes mistakes.

Our receiver (for a change) actually RECIEVE AND BLOCK downfield. (I find it shocking I am typing this but its true for the first time in 6 or so years).

You guys that are going need to go to the Beer thing that is $10/per. Heck of a deal.

Sorry my tailgate is out as I will be in Mex watching it on Direct tv.

Good luck Saturday! Should be a great game and I believe those going will have a Great time in SD!

Toledo is a much better offense than SDSU, but the defensive difference is not even comparable with how much better SDSU is.

If SDSU is light years better than Toledo then they are light years better than us too, and we might as well not even play the game. Toledo walloped Fresno last year, by way more than SDSU beat them.

I agree, we need to turn our offensive size advantage on the line and plow forward. It will be tough to get around the end with their team speed. Once we get them stopping the run, it should open up the passing game a little.

Main thing is no turn overs on offense. See you at the game Huskie Fans.

I honestly think this is where our team this year is more successful. Have to modify accordingly to personal. Heavy zone and power run with play action might be a tad boring at times but what our offense is built for.

They aren't worried about this game, at all, on the SDSU board. Not saying they don't deserve to be confident, but I am a little surprised how automatic they think this game is.

Interesting reads on Aztec 3-3-5 defensive

The Aztec defender

ASU Football Film: A glimpse inside Rocky Long’s defensive masterpiece at San Diego State

and Power Run Offense

How San Diego State's Rashaad Penny blossomed into the nation's leading rusher

Looking forward to see if NIU's defensive scheme can control (hard to stop) Penny, if NIU offense can effectively run between the hash marks and if we can mount a vertical passing attach to keep the Aztec DB's honest.

Holy crap. 353 all purpose yards against Stanford. This dude is going to give NIU fits. Can't wait for this game now.
