Why is Soccer team avoiding in-state rivals
This year we are not playing USA, Troy, Samford AU and UAT. Most years the women have played majority of them. AU and UAT play almost all(no AU/Troy), I cannot remember a year where we avoided all of them. Instead we play mediocre teams from TN, GA and MS (we do play Jax State in ?exhibition?).
I know the program has been bad since Paul left - last year was bad enough for the coach to be fired (UAB rarely fires lessor team coaches). Is the new Coach behind this somewhat weird decision. It seems to be against the desires of most UAB fans to see and play these other schools. A real bad precedent for any of our teams and IMHO hurt our already modest attendance.
PS The men's team also does not play any in state teams. Even I know the reason for that - NO other schools have a mens team(Div 1)

We need to recruit outside of the state if we want to be competitive, that may have something to do with it.

Pretty sure we do recruit Alabama...we just don't sign anyone from the state.
