What is UALR's current athletic budget??? We know that you can have an FBS football/Divisin I athletic program on a >$10 million budget.

They're about 2-3 mil more than UAPB which currently plays football at the FCS level in the SWAC conference.

The numbers at the bottom aren't really helpful. It's comparing apples to oranges as far as I'm concerned, one playing FBS football and more sports, the other not playing football at all and less sports.

I'd rather see their numbers against ULM, the current lowest budget in FBS. If LR were to use their budget model, how far off are they???

Nothing against Little Rock but they just don't seem FBS ready to me. However if they really want to do it I wish them the best.

That was the point.
Comparing how much UALR has to spend to become an FBS with more sports and more rides.

Sure they might slide by on increasing the operating budget by $3 millionish but how viable is a start-up that is getting bashed and isn't spending to get better?

How do you gain traction in Arkansas if you aren't spending to compete with AState?

Do we as a conference want to see UALR doing bare minimum and screwing over the rest of the league in CFP performance money ratings and bad RPI because they are doing the least possible?

There are three types of studies.

1. School wants to add and hires someone to prove they are right to do it.

2. School doesn't want to add and hires someone to prove it is a bad idea.

3. School is getting some gruff about needing to add it, and they want someone to price tag on it to see where the chips may fall.

Wichita State about 10 years ago did a study to prove they couldn't bring it back. Then more recently had one done to prove they could. Then AAC called and now they seem to be pretending the favorable study never happened.

UALR ain't got the money. So they are either doing a study to prove it isn't feasible. Or they are doing it to set a price tag and they'll hang up and listen to see if anyone will write a check.

LOL...

You can laugh but it was accurate for USA. We had a study like #2 around 2001-2002 where it was destined for failure before it started. It was set up by a USA board that didn't believe football could work. Guess what? They said no to football. Then after several years our board, which had shifted to a more football-friendly group, yielded to pressure from Mobile and the student body petition to add football, and performed another study and ta-da, we have football.

That's all you need to know.

State wants the gate....city wants the parking.

UALR needs about $8,000,000 additional per year to match A-State. That is year to year.

That doesn't count start up costs and such.

Then take away gate revenue and parking revenue out of the mix.

And probanly not able to raise student fees beccuse its already high.

My bet is that they try it anyway.

I can't say that I've seen any groundswell of support for this anywhere except with those desperate to make War Memorial stadium a paying enterprise. I'll wish them luck but I think this study is DOA as far as the public is concerned.

If public opinion is really against it, make it known. Studies always come out as the paying party wants it to. ULAR will be used as the mechanism
to put money in War Memorial. It's all public money since ULAR would probably be heavily subsidized athletically, just follow the money.

Politics, doesn't matter which state, it's all smells. It's why there are so many universities and athletic programs in Louisiana. Cash cows for a few communities that would be Mayberry otherwise. All tax payer supported for the most part.

I'm sure in today's feel good-everyone deserves what they want-society, public opinion would overwlmingly state they would like to see UALR get a football team. But those people won't give a dime, nor care to ever attend a game.

I think the football part of the conference is viable and pretty set now so there is probably no longer a big worry to get uta or ualr to add football and what sports they do bring to the conference have no downside except for making travel a little more complicated. I do think that without the financial drag of football, uta and ualr have no excuse for not putting out really good oly sports.

I've only seen one comment from a UALR fan in this whole thread. I live in LR but I'm not a UALR fan so I am very curious about what the Trojan fans are thinking and hearing. Is there somewhere else that they hang out?
