The Legendary Pan American Center (1968-Present)
This November will mark the 49th NMSU Aggies basketball season inside the legendary Pan American Center. It opened up on November 30, 1968.

New Mexico State is 506-152 (80%) all-time inside the Pan American Center.

New Mexico State has had 24 crowds of over 13,000.

The highest attended game occurred on December 15th 1990. New Mexico State led by future NBA Champion Randy Brown against New Mexico led by future NBA Champion Luc Longley (both played for the Chicago Bulls). New Mexico State handed New Mexico a 72-64 win in front of 14,845.

NMSU entered the 1991 NCAA Tournament as the 11th rated basketball team in the nation by the AP and Coaches Polls.

Here are some more memorable games at the Pan American Center.

The 1979 game vs Larry Bird and Indiana State in front of 13,684 saw NMSU almost pull the upset on the National Champ Runner-up 91-89 on a half court shot at the buzzer.

NMSU averaged over 6,000 per game 38 of the 48 seasons played at the Pan American Center. The highest annual average was 1990-1991 season where the Aggies averaged 10,545 per game. NMSU has had winning seasons in 46 of the 28 seasons played at the Pan American Center.

New Mexico State also won the 2007 WAC Tournament inside the newly renovated Pan American Center beating Utah State.

New Mexico State also upset the #15 rated team in the nation, Nevada 80-73 in front of a sold out Pan American Center crowd of 12,485.

The Pan American Center, the best arena in the WAC.

Today, the Pan American Center is the best in the WAC. GCU has the #1 student section, NMSU has the #1 home court advantage.

The thing is what is construed as an "NMSU" thread or a "WAC" thread? If it relates to this conference, it has every right to be on this WAC board. If it is solely NMSU related then I understand it being moved to the Aggie board. The WAC tournament games are WAC related. The old UNLV and NIT games are Aggie specific.

Simply saying that this should be moved to an NMSU board is acting like a first grader? Also we should grow up says the guy who harassed a players mom on twitter and gets into arguments 24/7 with college kids on twitter. And you're like 60 aren't you Frank?

I suppose we each have our own ideas about what is an appropriate general WAC post, and what we put on individual school boards. For example, my filter is "Will this information be of interest or relevance to fans of all WAC schools?" If I feel like the answer is generally yes, it goes on the WAC board. If I question or doubt that anyone other than GCU fans will be interested, I put it on the GCU board.

We all have our own filters, but what I am hearing from non-NMSU fans on these posts is that they are not of interest/relevance to anyone other than Aggies. Personally, because there aren't really established rules about what goes where (nor should there be), I don't care where Frank rambles on about decades old glory and accomplishments.

I don't get what the big deal is. Don't like the thread, don't click on it. We're fooling ourselves if we think we can be picky with with content/discussion topics in today's WAC. We should take every fan with open arms.

Also, Frank is responding to a discussion that started on Twitter about best home-court advantage in the WAC. A worthy topic in this barren sports month.

I'm with you 747. I understand some (maybe most) of these other conference posters have no interest in anything about NMSU beyond their respective school's entry in to the WAC, but NMSU's history in this conference extends back to 2006; far beyond the others.

We don't have enough posters on this board to be picky about the topics of the threads; especially this time of year. This time of year, there are over 130 programs speculating about their upcoming football season. At least Aggie fans aren't starting football threads...and, I don't know how many fictional conference expansion threads we can start.

If theres 3 seperate threads a day about NMSU history, that belongs on an NMSU specific thread. Maybe im in the minority on that. Dont call this stuff "WAC related" either, most of what Frank's posted is from before NMSU was even in the WAC.

Basically, whats the point of the team-specific threads if stuff like this is wanted on the main thread? My 2 cents. Everyone whos interested in it will see it on the NMSU or any team board. Posts on any of the team boards dont go unnoticed

RE: The Legendary Pan American Center (1968-Present)
This is the problem I have with this thread. I really don't care that we averaged almost 10000 in the past. What are we doing now? We can't even average 5000. Now granted, those 5000 are loud and even though we don't give away tickets like GCU or pack the gym with 3rd graders like Bakersfield, those 5 thousand are raucous and loud. NmSU still has the best home record by far not only in the Wac but in the nation. I'm hoping for bigger crowds but if we keep winning with 5000 and making Dan Majerle almost cry I'm happy with that. However, I don't think none of our current WAC mates care about our storied past or attendance stories. It's about as relavent as Seattles Final Four appearance in 1958.

Okay, since apparently this discussion is about the best home court advantage in the WAC, I will throw out some attendance numbers. Here are the home attendance figures for the last four years. As a whole the WAC is trending upward which is positive. However, only two schools (GCU & NMSU) sit above average so the WAC is still bottom heavy in terms of attendance. CSUB is showing lots of improvement though (from last to fourth) and even CSU is showing some improvement. Those on somewhat of a decline are SU and NMSU. Perhaps NMSU's touted home court advantage may be "a thing" but it may not be for long if the current trend continues.

And Bako or GCU fans (or some others in conference) AREN'T raucous and loud? Hey, at least most schools attendance can be said to be increading, not decreasing.
