BIGGER IS BETTER!!!!
I was toying with this idea in another thread and I really think it's the future of FBS FB.

All conferences expand to 20 teams. A Power 4 and a Group of 4.

Expand the playoff to 10 teams with the 4 P4 champs getting an auto-bid along with the top 2 G4 champs and 2 wild cards. The top 2 teams get a bye in the first round and the first round is at the higher seeded teams home field then the semi's and finals are at neutral sites.

The regular season expands to 13 games and every conference plays 10 conference games.

No more games allowed against the FCS. The expanded conferences has enough teams where it's no longer needed.

Behold the expanded conferences! *Edited for teams I forgot to add*

lol. Which one of these schools looks out of place?

Seriously, if Notre Dame, Texas, OU, etc, were even in the least interested in the B1G, they would've been there long before Rutgers. 07-coffee3

RE: BIGGER IS BETTER!!!!
There is so much silliness in that 160 team lineup, particularly at your G4 level. Rather going through it all, I will ask why the non-scholarship San Deigo be in FBS? And no part of Wofford, Charleston Southern, or Western Carolina belongs in FBS. And why would one of the oldest continuous rivalries in football (Richmond and W&M) be in different conferences were they both to go FBS? I could go on, what i wont.

I thought I'd hate it, but I kind of like it.
Maybe you had me with "two G4 champs in the playoff".

RE: BIGGER IS BETTER!!!!
I like the Idea of the SEC -2 and ACC -2 merging; and the B1G -2 and Pac 12 merging; and having 2 premiere leagues and 2 relegation leagues. You could even break away from the NCAA for football.

Maybe even make it SEC + 2, ACC +2, B1G +2 and Pac 16.

Anywhere from 72-80 in my fantasy. The rest go to a blend of G5/FCS superstars. The crappy FCS drop to D2 or D3.

So, Northern Colorado replaces Colorado State in the Mountain West? Don't be silly.

Oh I pop on quite a bit... and there's more of us... so many realignment threads, so little time. We have a lot of drama on our own board to keep up with, too. My favorits threads here are the ones where Rice crops up (suggested by fans of other schools) as a P5 promotion candidate. That's a good goal but we still have a lot of boxes we need to check in terms of, yup, fan and community support.
Our best shot at getting back up to the "top tier" might be sneaking in to a 80-team Power Group structure like the one suggested here. There are some other contrived scenarios where it could happen, too.
The OP is on record as saying it'll never happen - and he may well be right. I haven't given up on hoping for it, and my personal opinion is that the AD is doing the right things to put us in a position to be in those conversations in 5, 10 years.
But if you told me today we could play in the AAC and have a defined path to a playoff, I'd take that in a second. Even if the AAC in this scenario looks a lot like C-USA does today.

I also think the idea of an 18 or 20 team conference could work well, especially if the teams have something in common and the conference has an identity.

Colorado State is missing altogether. Same goes for Ball State and South Alabama.

I'm not sure it's exactly what I want but I believe it will be the end result of the network realignment game.

RE: BIGGER IS BETTER!!!!
No matter how many exclamation marks you use, bigger is not better. With 14 teams schools are already complaining about not seeing each other enough. UNC scheduled Wake Forest OOC for football. UNC and NCSU scheduled an OOC baseball game (it got rained out).

A better name for this plan is P2/G2/D2.

P2 (B1G, SEC)
G2 (ACC, PAC)
D2 (the rest)
