G5 TEAMS THAT COULD GRAB THE NY6 SPOT
No question App is a long shot, but it's awesome to be mentioned in only our 3rd year of bowl eligibility.

swap #2 and #3...USF's easy schedule sets them up to get 10+ wins IMHO

If App made the NY6 that would be awesome. The SBC needs to get there and if it is App that leads the way then . . Go Mountaineers !! 04-cheers

Sigh....one coaching hire makes a world of difference.

We were in the discussion in 2014 and we weren't even bowl eligible at the time :/

What? GS lost to two of their first three to middle of the pack ACC teams, and then Navy dropped half a hundred on them in mid November.

Do you mean GS was mentioned in the conversation at GS tailgates, I'll buy that, nationally, sigh.

They did a segment on college gameday where they showed the team with the best chance of going from each conference and we were their pick from the SBC. There was also a segment when they were announcing the first ever CFP top 4 and they did a rundown of the top 10 offenses and top 10 defenses in the nation and GS was included in the offenses list. If I cared enough, I could search through my Twitter to find the screenshot.

Nobody said we would have gone in 2014 so you can unclench your butt cheeks now.

Hope App or Troy can make it this year. Personally, I think Troy has a great chance to be in the conversation if they go 12-0.

What you're saying is true, there is a chance, but there is no such great chance in beating both Boise and LSU. They will both begin the season ranked, and LSU will be in the Top 5 most of the season.

Guess it's time to prove y'all are the real deal. If y'all can beat two ranked teams then y'all will be a favorite for the spot.

Still trying to figure out why there's so much hype around UCF. I could see them winning 8 or 9, but I think the rebuilding they're going to have to do on defense will keep them from the Access Bowl.

This would be the year for an SBC team to take the bid, though. The AAC isn't going to be close to what it was in 2015. Not sold on USF, either.

Troy at Boise could be a really big game in determining this, BTW.

I would bet money LSU is not top 10 by the end of the season.

What are you basing that on? Orgeron is somewhat of an unknown, but I think he's proven he can and will be more consistent that Les Miles. I also think the team will take this year as one to prove themselves and will come out on fire. For better or for worse, this is not Les Miles' team.

Francis, the top team in a conference is much different than an actual shot at a NY6 bowl.

If App loses to UGA our shot will be DOA, which is highly likely.

But we were in the conversation.

We were also undefeated in conference at the time.

My point still stands about how one coaching hire can make a difference. You will one day be faced with that reality.

And yes, beating UGA is just one step. An SBC team is going to need to be undefeated in conference. Boise is the default if they're eligible just because of who they are. It gets harder next year with the championship game starting.

Coaches matter, well of course they do, who is refuting that claim?

Just because you're undefeated in the SBC you really aren't in the conversation.

If App beats every SBC opponent by 30, but loses to UGA and Wake, we have a 0% chance at a NY6 bowl.

GS fan: Look, an article about App State (or another SBC school). I will not stand for such tomfoolery without finding a way to make it about Georgia Southern.

With losses against UGA and Wake and an undefeated SBC season, there's still a possibility. You'd need some help with other teams screwing up their chances. That's why the point about us in 2014 is actually relevant. Prior to the Navy game, we had impressive showings in 2 losses and were steamrolling the SBC. Say you beat Wake and have a close finish against UGA (like our 2014 GT game), I wouldn't exactly count you guys out.

However, if you beat UGA and Wake and lose the SBC, you're not eligible either.

Only conference champions are considered for the Access Bowl. Since there is no conference championship game and you're not playing a full round robin, you're going to be hard pressed going against the rest of the G5 if you drop an in conference game. Obviously that could change next year.

The bar is definitely 12-0. The only leeway is in the UGA and Wake games and how they finish. 10-2 with close finishes in those games still leaves the door open.

Glad we have an SBC team in the conversation however a GS fan correcting revisionist history is hardly a thread derail-er unless you want it to be.

We should always have a team in this discussion. App's schedule (if they can beat or be competitive with UGA) sets them up for an opportunity at the end of the season, IMO.
