RE: Ian Baker
Pope is probably the 5th or 6th best coach in the WAC. I have Hayford and Hill ahead of him.

I hold a higher view of Pope. This will be the first UVU team he's had that is fully his and fully meshed. Pistol & I may have been too soon in calling it last year, but this has to be the season for UVU to take that big jump forward. If not now, I don't know if/when/how Pope makes it happen.

Agree, I think Pope is undervalued by a lot of people. He's one of the better WAC coaches imo

Of coaching returning it goes toss up between Barnes and DM then you have Hill and Pope Dildy. I do think Hayford is a better coach than Pope and Hill and Pope are a wash in my book.

RE: Ian Baker
Although Coach Jans has replenished much of our talent in short order, I still don't think this Aggie team is built the way he would like to see it done in the future. I suspect NMSU will take on more of a Wichita State type toughness in the coming years.

I have an opinion about who I think are the best and worst WAC coaches. I think by the end of year three a coach has already established the type of program he is going to build and to what level.

Duh Utah Valley they have the best player

The question is can he replicate success with more minutes

They have the best player? Who might that be?

I think UVU might be the team to beat because of their continuity from the previous season. They return most of their roster. And, add a 7'0 shot blocker who should fit well into their rotation.

However, I think CSUB (Damiyne Durham), GCU (Josh Braun), and NMSU (Eli Chuha) have better players than UVU.

I agree. I love my Aggies but with no bias I'm picking Utah Valley to win the WAC this year. They are loaded. Man I hope they destroy Utah State this year. One writer picked a 3 way race for WAC title and I agree, GCU, NMSU and UVU. Sorry Bakersfield. However, if Barnes does pull off another WAC title and have a year like he did last year, the hottest coach in college basketball will most certainly be snatched away for bigger money.

Dont be sorry, no need. This will all be settled when play begins.
Imo, this particular off-season is more "active" on the boards as now, the WAC has more legitimacy, coming off last year. A good/healthy thing, a mark of growth I think.

That being said, in regards to Baker, I always thought the guy was a class act.

Currently mobile....San Diego area.
